With Donald Trump in office, Nancy Pelosi is in the fight of her life.
She is working to take Trump out of office as soon as possible.
But Pelosi just suffered a major defeat after a top Democrat revealed a dark secret.
After doing nothing besides obstruct President Trump for two years, Democrats feel they need a pay raise.
A new bill is going through that will increase pay for those in Congress by $4,500.
This is on top of the $174,000 yearly salary they already receive.
Democrats are arguing it’s simply a cost of living increase with Washington, D.C. being so expensive to live in.
But critics argue the increase is just a way for Democrats to reward themselves for doing nothing.
Republicans stand opposed to the measure which the National Republican Congressional Committee revealed in a statement that blasted the Democrats:
“After campaigning on a slogan of ‘for the people,’ the socialist Democrats have accomplished a whole lot of nothing 6 months into their majority. And as a reward for their incompetence, they want middle-class taxpayers to give them a $4,500 pay raise! Apparently making $174,000 a year, which is more than three times the average American’s salary, just isn’t enough for these socialist elitists.”
Nancy Pelosi has little to say about the measure, but said they need to find bi-partisan support first.
“That’s something that everybody would have to come together on in terms of bipartisanship,” Pelosi said.
“Until we have that, there’s no reason to even discuss it.”
But Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a lot to say about the measure and revealed the real reason Democrats are pushing for it.
Ocasio-Cortez alleges that they need a pay increase in order to avoid the temptation of “dark money.”
“Voting against cost of living increases for members of Congress may sound nice, but doing so only increases pressure on them to keep dark money loopholes open,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
Ocasio-Cortez, while supporting something that most Americans oppose, is revealing a dark secret about the Democrat Party and the establishment as a whole.
Career politicians often make millions of dollars after taking office.
In fact, Nancy Pelosi has a net worth of around $72 million between herself and her husband.
Her net worth rises exponentially with every new position she takes.
So it is clear that she is likely milking her position as Speaker of the House to enrich herself.
A $4,500 increase is virtually nothing for Pelosi.
But the point made by Ocasio-Cortez shines a huge light on the corrupt nature of Congress.
While a $4,500 increase in pay may infuriate taxpayers paying those in Congress, it truly is nothing to the most powerful in Congress.
The median net worth of those in Congress is $456,522 with many making massive amounts more.
And many of those didn’t achieve their net worth until taking office.
In the case of President Trump, he’s actually lost money since taking office.
