All hell is breaking loose in the Democrat Party.
More devastating news is on the way.
Nancy Pelosi is about to lose her job because of Joe Biden tanking in this key state.
Joe Biden carried Virginia by 10 points in 2020 after Democrat Ralph Northam – who reporters later found appeared in blackface in a photo in his medical school yearbooks – easily won the 2017 Virginia gubernatorial election.
Those wins served as proof that Democrats permanently pried the suburbs loose from GOP control and that Democrats held the upper hand with swing voters.
But just eight months into the Biden regime and the tide already turned.
Thanks to Joe Biden’s failures to control inflation, fix a broken supply chain, manage COVID or execute a competent withdrawal from Afghanistan, Biden’s poll numbers sunk underwater.
And once blue, Virginia now looks like a toss-up.
The Virginia gubernatorial election in 2009 and 2017 served as foreshadowing for the 2010 Tea Party wave and the 2018 Democrat win.
Earlier this summer polls showed Democrat Terry McAuliffe leading Republican Glenn Youngkin by mid-to-high single digits.
But as Biden’s fortunes sagged, Virginians soured on Democrats.
A brand-new Emerson poll shows McAuliffe clinging to a 49 to 48 lead over Youngkin.
Party leaders now worry that even a close race in Virginia – let alone a Youngkin win – would signal that Democrats sit on the verge of another wipeout that could cost them their House and Senate majorities next year.
Democrats like McAuliffe acknowledge that the problem is Joe Biden’s growing unpopularity.
“We are facing a lot of headwinds from Washington,” McAuliffe told supporters. “As you know, the president is unpopular today, unfortunately, here in Virginia, so we have got to plow through.”
A McAuliffe spokesman responded trying to smooth over any break with Biden so as not to alienate base Democrats in the upcoming election.
“Terry’s point was clearly that Democrats can’t take anything for granted and must turn out to vote this year: Glenn Youngkin is running on a divisive, Trumpian agenda that puts election conspiracy theories and banning abortion first.”
If Youngkin emerges victorious Democrats will break out in panic.
McAuliffe is running on a platform of abortion on demand until the moment of birth and mandatory vaccines for every man, woman and child in the commonwealth.
Biden and his allies believe cultural liberalism and mandatory vaccination are the key to keeping swing voters in their camp.
Even if the race is close – a narrow McAuliffe win would signify a major shift to the right in Virginia since 2020 – Democrats will consider the broader national implications of the underlying political currents in Virginia and what they portend for next year.
