Democrats are pulling an insane move that is utterly ridiculous.
They truly want to imprison Donald Trump.
Nancy Pelosi is trying to put Donald Trump in jail with this unconstitutional command.
The House January 6 committee voted on Monday to recommend the Justice Department charge former President Donald Trump over the January 6, 2021 riot.
The committee, formed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), alleged that Trump was guilty of conspiracy to defraud the United States; obstruction of an official proceeding; conspiracy to make a false statement; and inciting, assisting, or aiding and comforting an insurrection against the country.
[Trump] “lost the 2020 election and knew it, but he chose to try and stay in office through a multi-part scheme to overturn the results and block the transfer of power,” Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said in his opening statement. “In the end, he summoned a mob to Washington and, knowing they were armed and angry, pointed them to the Capitol and told them to ‘fight like hell.’ There’s no doubt about this.”
Trump blasted the committee in an October memo.
“This memo is being written to express our anger, disappointment and complaint that with all of the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on what many consider to be a Charade and Witch Hunt,” Trump said.
Chuck Rosenberg, a former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said during an interview with MSNBC on Monday that the referrals were meaningless.
“If you’re talking about it from the perspective of the Department of Justice, it is somewhere between meaningless and completely meaningless,” Rosenberg contended.
The committee was made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans who were handpicked by Pelosi.
Neither of the two Republicans chosen by Pelosi for the committee were reelected to Congress.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung denounced them as “show trials” on Monday.
“This kangaroo court has been nothing more than a Hollywood executive’s vanity documentary project that insults Americans’ intelligence and makes a mockery of our democracy,” Cheung added.
The Jan 6th committee also said Monday it would be referring four Republican members of Congress to the House Ethics Committee for refusing to comply with subpoenas.
The members being referred to the committee include House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and Reps. Andy Biggs of Arizona, Jim Jordan of Ohio and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania.
The House Ethics Committee is evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats, meaning the referrals are unlikely to lead to an investigation.
“This is just another partisan and political stunt made by a Select Committee that knowingly altered evidence, blocked minority representation on a Committee for the first time in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives, and failed to respond to Mr. Jordan’s numerous letters and concerns surrounding the politicization and legitimacy of the Committee’s work,” said a spokesperson for Rep. Jim Jordan.
