Americans were blindsided.
Out of nowhere the Democrats proposed one of the biggest power grabs in American history.
Nancy Pelosi just floated the idea of making this big Supreme Court change.
Just days after Joe Biden appointed a Democrat-dominated commission to study packing the Supreme Court, Democrats introduced legislation in the House and Senate to add four new liberal justices in anticipation of the commission’s report.
At House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s weekly press conference, reporters asked Pelosi about these two moves to pack the Supreme Court.
Pelosi declared her full support for Biden’s commission to study court-packing.
“I support the president’s commission to study such a proposal,” Pelosi responded.
Speaker Pelosi did not want to shoot down the idea of court-packing because by the time Biden’s commission reports back in the fall, Democrats may have already nuked the legislative filibuster which would pave the way to pass court-packing legislation.
“I don’t know that that’s a good idea or bad idea. I think it’s an idea that should be considered. And I think the president’s taking the right approach to, to have a commission to study such a thing,” Pelosi added.
Pelosi tipped her hand that she supported court-packing by noting that Congress did expand the Court before.
“It’s not out of the question, it has been done before,” Pelosi went on to say that “the history of our country a long time ago, and the growth of our country, the size of our country, the growth of our challenges in terms of the economy, etc. might necessitate such a thing.”
The last time Congress expanded the Supreme Court was in the 1860s when legislation created the current nine-member Supreme Court.
Back then each judge presided over a circuit court and there were nine circuit courts so Congress enlarged the Supreme Court to nine justices.
Some in the corporate media claimed Pelosi did not support court-packing because she said “I have no plans to bring it to the floor” and to schedule a vote on legislation to add four new liberal justices to the Supreme Court.
But until Democrats get rid of the filibuster there aren’t the votes to pass this attack on American democracy.
That’s because Republicans are united in their opposition to court-packing.
Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton explained why court-packing would tear apart one of the pillars of the nation’s constitutional Republic.
“One reason that we respect the rule of law is that our Constitution created independent judiciary to protect the rights of Americans, and to create a final tribunal and that tribunal makes its decisions in accordance with the law and the statute, the statutes and previous cases,” Cotton stated. “But if the Democrats simply want to expand the court to add four new liberal justices, because that’s the current deficit they would need to make up to get democratic appointed justices and control the committee, the court will lose all legitimacy.”
For all their talk about Donald Trump supposedly destroying “norms,” Democrats do not care about the bedrock principles that the country was founded on.
Right now the left runs Washington and holds all the power in corporate America, Big Tech, the media, Hollywood, academia and pro sports.
The only institution not under their total control is the Supreme Court.
Democrats aim to change that with the goal of turning America into a one-party state like the old Soviet Union or Communist China.
