Joe Biden considers himself the leader of the Democrat Party.
But the rest of the party has other ideas.
And Nancy Pelosi just revealed what Democrats really think about Joe Biden.
Joe Biden is supposedly weeks away from announcing his re-election plans.
Biden tells all his associates that he plans to seek a second term.
But party leaders and the rank and file keep sending Biden a message that it is time to pack it in.
Left-wing New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd asked Pelosi if she agrees with Biden’s contention that he is the only Democrat who can defeat Donald Trump.
“No,” Pelosi responded. The former speaker of the House added that she believes other Democrats will step up to run. “I think we have other great candidates when the time comes,” Pelosi added.
Pelosi was not just speaking for herself.
The Times published this interview where Pelosi rejected the fundamental rationale for Joe Biden’s re-election campaign as a University of New Hampshire poll found 82 percent of progressives and 57 percent of liberals in the Granite State do not want Biden to seek a second term.
“A new Granite State Poll from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center found 82% of progressives and 57% of liberals, groups that usually dominate the Democratic primary there, probably or definitely do not want Biden to run again next year,” CBS News reported.
University of New Hampshire polling director Andrew Smith explained that this was the highest level of resistance he’s seen in New Hampshire to a sitting president since Lyndon Baines Johnson during the Vietnam War.
“This is stronger than the animosity that there was towards Lyndon Johnson back in 1968,” Smith declared.
In 1968 Johnson won such an unimpressive win over Minnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy that Johnson dropped out of the race upon realizing how little support he had within his own party.
The University of New Hampshire poll found Joe Biden winning 18 percent of the primary vote which put him in a statistical tie with several 2020 also-rans like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg leads the pack with 23 percent of the vote.
“Amid uncertainty about the fate of the 2024 New Hampshire Democratic primary, two-thirds of likely Democratic primary voters don’t want President Joe Biden to seek reelection. Biden is statistically tied with several 2020 rivals, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, all of whom are more personally popular than Biden among likely Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire,” the University of New Hampshire’s polling memo stated.
This is unheard-of lack of support for a sitting president.
Democrats clearly do not believe Joe Biden can defeat Donald Trump, or any Republican for that matter.
Polls consistently show more than 60 percent of Democrat voters do not want Biden to seek a second term.
And Nancy Pelosi is the most prominent Democrat to give voice to that sentiment.
