Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer thought they were operating on the same page.
But Nancy Pelosi got some bad news.
And Nancy Pelosi was furious after learning the sneaky way Chuck Schumer double-crossed her.
Democrats are trying to fund the government, raise the debt ceiling, pass a so-called $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill and ram through a $3.5 trillion socialist dream bill that raises taxes and creates a cradle-to-grave welfare state using the budget reconciliation process.
But Republicans are filibustering any debt ceiling increase arguing that if Democrats want to pile trillions in new debt on the heads of every man, woman and child in America, Democrats can do so using the reconciliation process where they plan to pass the $3.5 trillion socialist bill with just Democrat voters.
Democrats don’t want to take that path because they want Republican votes to raise the debt ceiling by trillions of dollars to avoid campaign commercials next fall about how Democrats were responsible for adding trillions of dollars in new debt.
Schumer told reporters that “going through reconciliation is risky to the country and is a non-starter.”
That came as a surprise to Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats.
Just that morning Pelosi met with her caucus and prepared them to vote for a government funding bill that did not include a debt ceiling increase, paving the way for Democrats to use reconciliation to raise the debt ceiling.
“Pelosi signaled that Ds will decouple the CR to fund the gov from the provision to raise the debt ceiling in Dem caucus meeting, I’m told.” CNN’s Annie Grayer reported. “This move would avoid a gov shutdown because GOP has said they will not vote for the CR if it includes the debt ceiling provision.”
For the first eight months of the Biden administration, Pelosi and Schumer operated hand-in-glove to advance Joe Biden’s radical agenda.
Schumer and Pelosi’s opposing stances on raising the debt ceiling represented the first cracks in the foundation of that working relationship.
Pelosi immediately launched into damage control mode trying to get back on the same page with Chuck Schumer.
“[No debt ceiling in reconciliation is] a position that’s shared by many members,” Pelosi told Punchbowl News about the feeling inside her caucus.
“We will see what our options are,” Pelosi responded when asked if she agreed with that sentiment.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen claims the government will run out of money to pay the interest on the debt by October 18.
There is little chance Democrats will complete the $3.5 trillion socialist tax and spend bill by that date.
If Democrats are forced to use reconciliation to raise the debt ceiling it will kill any chance to pass a $3.5 trillion bill that is the left’s best chance to turn America into a socialist nation.
