Nancy Pelosi’s political future is one of the most hotly debated topics in Washington.
With Democrats’ control of Congress on the line next November Pelosi’s future is much in doubt.
Nancy Pelosi went on CNN and dropped a surprising announcement about re-election.
There is much speculation floating around Washington that this will be Nancy Pelosi’s final term in Congress.
In order to win the votes to secure the speaker’s gavel, Pelosi promised to only serve two terms in the position.
2022 is the end of that deal.
With Democrats holding a slim majority in the House and Joe Biden’s poll numbers sinking, political forecasters expect Democrats to lose control of the House of Representatives.
That led many to suspect that Pelosi would retire rather than serve as a backbencher in a toothless House minority.
In an interview on CNN with left-wing activist Jake Tapper, Pelosi added fuel to the retirement rumors by refusing to announce if she planned to run for re-election in 2022.
Tapper and Pelosi had the following exchange:
“I do want to ask about your own future in Congress. Are you going to run for reelection?”
“Oh, you think I’m going to make an announcement right here and now?”
“Yeah. Why not?
“I want to be on many more times.”
“You’re going to run for reelection, though, yes?”
“Why would I tell you that now?”
“It’s not just me, it’s the American people, the world. This is an international show.”
“Probably, I would have that conversation with my family first if you don’t mind.”
Pelosi hedging on re-election was a far cry from the story Pelosi and her acolytes planted in the press just a few weeks ago leaking that Pelosi intended to run for re-election and serve as the Democrats’ leader in the House of Representatives through the 2024 election.
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has signaled to party leaders that she plans on sticking around through the 2024 elections and is hoping the lingering shadow of former President Donald Trump will help Democrats defend their slim House majority in the midterm elections next year,” The Washington Times reported.
The Washington Times’ report about Pelosi staying on through 2024 came when Pelosi tried to wrangle the votes for Joe Biden’s multi-trillion-dollar socialist spending package.
Pelosi likely leaked this story because a lame duck speaker heading for the exits after next year held no leverage to twist arms and force reluctant Democrats to line up behind Joe Biden’s plan to turn America into a socialist nation.
But the reality is Pelosi leaking that she planned to stay on through 2024 amounted to nothing more than bluster.
Pelosi also does not want to repeat the act of sabotage committed by anti-Trump RINO Paul Ryan back in 2018.
House Speaker Ryan announced before the midterms that he would retire which amounted to the leader of the GOP’s congressional wing waving the white flag of surrender and announcing to voters that Republicans had no chance to keep the House.
Pelosi knows her retirement would only serve to depress the Democrat vote – which could also cost the party the Senate and several key governors’ mansions – so Pelosi is keeping her cards held close to the vest.
