Nancy Pelosi and her allies quickly realized their impeachment blunder blew up in their faces.
Democrats quickly scrambled into damage control mode.
And Nancy Pelosi wrote this one letter that waved the white flag on impeachment.
For weeks, Republicans led by President Trump savaged the Democrats over House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff’s Stalinist impeachment proceedings.
Schiff questioned witnesses in the Capitol basement and kept the transcript of their testimony under lock and key.
This allowed Schiff to drive the impeachment narrative through selective leaks to friendly fake news so-called “reporters.”
But the attacks on the Democrats’ process took their toll and sapped the momentum from the Democrats’ impeachment drive.
A recent Suffolk USA/Today poll found 40 percent of Americans agreed with President Trump that the Democrats attempting to impeach him over the phony Ukraine scandal was a “lynching.”
This same survey also showed that a paltry 37 percent of Americans agreed with the Democrats and the fake and corrupt news media that Congress should impeach President Trump and remove him from office.
House Speaker Pelosi knew she had a problem on her hands and needed a quick fix to staunch the political bleeding.
Pelosi’s solution was to circulate a letter informing Democrats that by the end of the week Democrats would supposedly vote on an official impeachment inquiry even though both Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer strained to declare that this was not an impeachment inquiry.
Republicans ripped this idea as the continuation of a sham process.
Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan – who sits on the Oversight Committee and attended a number of depositions in Schiff’s kangaroo court – led this charge.
“It shows that they realize this process is completely unfair, completely partisan, and they are going to try to spruce it up a little bit and still not give rights to the president, to the minority and still do things in secret,” Jordan declared.
Even establishment RINOs backed up the President’s defenders on this point.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney slammed Pelosi for trying to slap lipstick on a pig.
“You can’t put the genie back in the bottle…it would be the fruit from the poisonous tree. It’d be a mistrial,” McCarthy told the press.
“They’re now attempting to put a cloak of legitimacy on this process by bringing a vote to the floor,” Cheney stated.
When Republicans saw the text of Pelosi’s resolution, everything they feared was true.
This was not a resolution to authorize an impeachment inquiry.
The text merely read:
Resolved, That the Permanent Select Committee on 2 Intelligence and the Committees on Financial Services, 3 Foreign Affairs, the Judiciary, Oversight and Reform, and 4 Ways and Means, are directed to continue their ongoing investigations as part of the existing House of Representatives inquiry into whether sufficient grounds exist for the 3 House of Representatives to exercise its Constitutional power to impeach Donald John Trump, President of 5 the United States of America.
But no such inquiry exists.
The Democrats refused to vote on opening an official impeachment inquiry similar to the votes Congress held for Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton.
Democrats know impeachment is a political ticking time bomb.
It’s so toxic Pelosi refuses to even use the word.
