Nancy Pelosi was not prepared for the crisis that engulfed her and the rest of the Democrats.
Pelosi is now locked in a battle she is beginning to realize she can’t win.
And then Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said the one word that could end Nancy Pelosi’s career.
The Democrat Party fractured along ideological lines after Nancy Pelosi waved the white flag of surrender over Donald Trump’s 4.5-billion-dollar request for humanitarian aid to address the crisis at the Southern border.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley – who dub themselves “The Squad” – were the only four Democrats to oppose the bill.
“The Squad” did not take their defeat well and did not keep their displeasure to themselves.
Ocasio-Cortez and her allies raged on social media about Pelosi and so-called “centrist” Democrats, not including any provisions in the border bill to prevent Donald Trump from enforcing immigration law.
That led to a heated closed-door meeting where Speaker Pelosi took “The Squad” to task.
“You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just okay,” Pelosi told her conference.
But there was no mistaking who Pelosi was referencing with those comments.
And Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow radicals punched back twice as hard.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Ocasio-Cortez blasted Pelosi as a racist.
“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview with The Washington Post. “But the persistent singling out . . . it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful . . . the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”
Those comments fired off a shockwave across Washington.
Pelosi had no idea how to handle this attack.
The Speaker is at ease calling Republicans racist, but Pelosi completely lost her cool when the tables were turned and she was on the wrong end of the race card.
But instead of backing off her attacks on Pelosi, Ocasio-Cortez doubled down.
In an interview with CNN, Ocasio-Cortez said Pelosi’s comments were part of a pattern of attacking leftists and that Pelosi singling “The Squad” out for criticism led to death threats.
“Well I think it’s really just pointing out a pattern, right? We’re not talking just about progressives, it’s singling out four individuals and knowing the media environment we’re operating in,” Ocasio-Cortez told reporter Manu Raj.
“It’s singling out 4 individuals, and knowing the media environment that we’re operating in, knowing the amount of death threats that we get …. I think it’s just worth asking why,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.
The Democrat Party is breaking out into full-scale civil war just as their presidential nominating contest is revving up.
2020 contenders will be forced to take sides and the only result will be a fractured party heading into next year’s election.
That could result in a disastrous 2020 defeat where Democrats lose not only the Presidency, but their majority in the House as well.
And if that happens many expect Pelosi to either retire or be forced out of leadership.
