The unfolding disaster in Afghanistan increased the odds that Joe Biden will not seek re-election.
Biden stepping aside would place the Democrat Party’s political fortunes in the hands of Kamala Harris.
That worries many party leaders and now one video of Kamala Harris made Democrats realize they are in deep trouble in 2024.
As the poorly executed withdrawal from Afghanistan turned into a political nightmare for the Biden administration, Vice President Harris ducked from public comments or appearances.
After spending several days in hiding, Harris finally spoke to reporters on her foreign trip to Singapore and Vietnam.
But even that turned into a disaster.
When reporters shouted questions at Harris, the vice president busted out her now signature cackle that turns off many Americans.

“The View” co-host Meghan McCain blasted Harris for cackling about the most embarrassing U.S. military defeat since the fall of Saigon in 1975.
McCain compared Harris’ nervous laugh to that of the comic book super villain, the Joker.
“This may be some kind of real issue (like Joaquin phoenix in the joker) but she’s the Vice President and she’s hand [sic] ample time and resources to media train herself out of reacting to every SINGLE crisis situation like she’s walking onto a late night show. She comes off so craven,” McCain stated.
The Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway noted Harris cackled in situations where she faced uncomfortable or difficult questions.
“She does that thing where she laughs nervously when she gets the slightest difficulty or a question or topic and it is making a lot of Americans nervous,” Hemingway stated.
Harris did not connect with Americans during her doomed 2020 presidential campaign.
After starting out as one of the frontrunners and even surging to the top of the polls, Harris dropped out of the race around Thanksgiving 2019 – months before the first votes were cast –after her polling and fundraising cratered.
Democrats hoped that Harris’ time as vice president would change Americans’ perception of Harris heading into 2024 by giving her a sense of gravitas.
But Harris’ failure as border czar and disastrous communications skills during the Afghanistan debacle scrapped those hopes.
Joe Biden’s confused and decrepit display as the Afghanistan withdrawal collapsed on his watch led to plunging poll numbers and increased chatter about Biden’s cognitive decline.
That also increased the odds that Joe Biden will decline to seek re-election in 2024.
If that happens, Kamala Harris is the likely Democrat Party nominee for president.
And what Democrats see from Harris on a daily basis is not inspiring confidence that Harris can defeat her Republican challenger.
