Another wave of migrant caravans are making their way north to the U.S.-Mexican border.
And President Trump is gearing up to deploy the military to the southern border.
But while the President is working to build a wall, Pelosi and Schumer are turning a blind eye to this massive problem on the border.
Democrats have spent two years working to obstruct President Trump’s campaign promises to secure the border with Mexico and build a wall.
There’s a massive problem on the southern border.
And with thousands of new migrants making their way up Central America to the U.S.-Mexican border, the problem is likely only going to get worse.
But while President Trump is working overtime to address the crisis along the border – to include the deployment of additional troops and a possible order to build a wall – Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer refuse to pay attention.
Instead, they seem content to turn a blind eye to the unfolding crisis in the south.
This, while the problems facing America on the southern border appear to be growing larger by the day.
And with many Americans focused on the immigration crisis, few know about the spiraling crime rates that continue to plague communities near the border.
The Daily Caller reports, “U.S. residents living near the southern border claim they are afraid to report immigration-related crimes to the police, detailing horrific stories of retaliation by Mexican cartels.”
“I turned in 700 pounds [of marijuana] up here … I called it in [to Border Patrol]. They went and got it. That night, [the smugglers] came back. They … broke off all the floats off my troughs — chopped ’em up, drained all of it,” said Billy Darnell, a cattle rancher in New Mexico.
Darnell faces extreme danger by alerting Border Patrol and other local law enforcement authorities about illegal activity he sees in the region, but many are too afraid to speak out.
“Drug smugglers working for the cartels are constantly crossing the U.S-Mexico border, carrying marijuana and other illicit narcotics with them. Many times, smugglers will camp out and make use of property on the U.S. side of the border, clashing with American ranchers and residents,” adds the Daily Caller.
The crime wave has led the U.S.-Mexican border to become extremely dangerous.
What’s more, the cities and towns that lie along the border, or nearby, are struggling to deal with a massive crime wave, unlike anything the region has seen in decades.
“I mix and mingle with these folks [ranchers near the border] a lot,” said Joel Edwards, a Hidalgo County commissioner.
When asked about fears of retaliation by drug cartels if their activity is reported, Edwards confirmed these fears. “That’s pretty much a real common feeling out there … I’ve heard it quite a bit in the last few weeks. They’re just scared.”
Hidalgo is a Texas county which lies on the border with Mexico.
The crime rates along the border have gotten little attention from Congress, however.
As debates over border security and building a wall continue to rage on in Washington, it’s unclear if Democrats, led by Pelosi and Schumer, are interested in working with President Trump in good faith.
