President Trump just took a big step towards fulfilling one of his key campaign promises.
But when he needed Republicans in Congress to stand by him the most, several double-crossed him by locking arms with Nancy Pelosi.
And these RINO Republicans are about to betray Trump in the biggest way possible.
President Trump, fresh off his battle with Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democratic Party in Washington over border security, recently took a major step towards fulfilling one of his biggest campaign promises.
The promise to secure the southern border and build a wall.
But when Trump signed a bipartisan bill to allocate just over a billion dollars towards border security which would go towards constructing part of his proposed wall with Mexico, the President decided to finally enact his executive powers to finish the rest of the job.
Trump had threatened to declare a national emergency in order to allocate funds to build the wall for months, but he had preferred to hold it off and work with Congress to get the funding needed.
This emergency order will fill in the gaps that the bipartisan bill has, but Trump may have just solved one problem and replaced it with another.
The President is now fighting a concerted Democrat-led attempt to block this order from going through.
Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives are now pushing through a resolution to block Trump’s ability to declare a national emergency and use his executive powers to secure the border.
And Republicans in the Senate are now on the verge of caving to Pelosi and giving into her demands to block the President.
Trump needs Congress to refuse to pass this resolution in order for his emergency order to move ahead.
Otherwise, the fight over the border wall could trigger a long series of legal battles over executive power and the role of Congress which could last the rest of Trump’s first term in office.
And with Republicans still in control of the U.S. Senate, any Pelosi-backed resolution would need at least a few Republicans to jump onboard in order to give it a chance of passing.
It seems increasingly likely that such a thing will happen.
The Daily Caller reports:
“Three Senate Republicans are expected to vote “yes” for a resolution in an attempt to terminate President Donald Trump’s national emergency for border wall funding.”
“The group of three Republicans expressed their concerns with Trump’s declaration for a national emergency, saying they do not believe the president should be allowed to override Congress to such a degree. In the group are Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Susan Collins of Maine,” adds the Daily Caller.
While Tillis made an argument that the executive order could pave the way for future Democratic presidents to advance left-wing policies by fiat, Murkowski and Collins likely have far more nefarious reasons for opposing the measure, due to their moderate and liberal voting records.
