Robert Mueller thought he was invincible.
The special counsel never imagined Donald Trump would dare make a move against him.
But then Robert Mueller got the very bad news that’s finished him for good.
Robert Mueller ran roughshod over the Constitution and the rule of law after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation.
Sessions’ weakness allowed swamp creature Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to assume authority over the Russian probe.
After Trump fired the lying and leaking James Comey, Rosenstein seized his chance to put a Deep State coup against the President into motion by appointing Robert Mueller as special counsel.
But the day after the midterm elections, Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned.
That allowed Trump to pick a replacement.
And the President tapped Matt Whitaker – who served as Sessions’ chief of staff – to be the Acting Attorney General.
Democrats lost their minds.
Whitaker had previously written op-eds and appeared on cable news ripping the Mueller investigation.
In one piece, Whitaker suggested that Trump didn’t need to fire Mueller.
Instead, Whitaker argued that the Deputy Attorney General should just slash Mueller’s budget until the investigation died a natural death.
Whitaker also ripped the Mueller probe as a “witch hunt.”
So Trump nominating Whitaker sent waves of panic through the corridors of Washington.
Fake news reporters, Democrats, and Never-Trump Republicans all freaked out over the possibility of an honest law enforcement official taking control of the Mueller probe and bringing its farce to an end.
So seven Democrats fired off a letter to the Department of Justice demanding Whitaker submit an ethics review to determine whether he should recuse himself.
They argued that since Whitaker told the truth about the Mueller probe, that he was unfit to oversee it.
But Mueller and the Democrats ended up getting bad news.
The DOJ ethics officials found Whitaker had no conflict of interest and cleared him to take control of the Mueller probe.
That enraged Democrats.
California Democrat Adam Schiff – who virtually lives on CNN and spends countless hours spreading baseless conspiracies about Russia collusion – raged about the DOJ’s decision.
“This ethics opinion must be shared with Congress. Now. DOJ officials must avoid not only actual impropriety but the appearance of impropriety,” Schiff said. “Given Whitaker’s prejudicial comments about Mueller, the public can have no confidence in him. We will scrutinize his every action.”
Surprisingly, however, Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein defended the way Whitaker oversaw the probe.
“In terms of my role, as we’ve described previously, we’ve continued to manage the investigation as we have in the past — and it’s being handled appropriately,” Rosenstein said at a press conference. “Whether it’s Bob Mueller or Rod Rosenstein or Matt Whitaker or Bill Barr, that investigation’s going to be handled appropriately by the Department of Justice.”
Whitaker overseeing the Mueller investigation means a neutral and fair-minded official will judge the validity of Mueller’s work.
This is good news for the President and the country.
But very bad news for Mueller and his gang of Democrat attack dogs.
