The Democrats’ flailing impeachment witch hunt just reached its most desperate phase.
With time running out, Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi and their allies are throwing everything against the wall in the hopes that something sticks.
And now Robert Mueller made this surprise return in impeachment that left Donald Trump seeing red.
Democrats are in the middle of a legal challenge to gain access to the sliver of secret grand jury material from the Robert Mueller investigation that the Department of Justice withheld in accordance with federal law.
During Roger Stone’s trial the government presented testimony from former Trump campaign deputy campaign manager Rick Gates that Donald Trump and Roger Stone spoke about WikiLeaks email dumps during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Gates claimed that Donald Trump spoke with Stone on the phone in July 2016.
“He indicated that more information would be coming,” Gates testified Trump told him after the phone call.
Democrats seized on this to claim President Trump lied to Robert Mueller in his written answers.
“I spoke by telephone with Roger Stone from time to time during the campaign,” Trump testified to Mueller in his written answers. “I have no recollection of the specifics of any conversations I had with Mr. Stone between June 1, 2016 and November 8, 2016. I do not recall discussing WikiLeaks with him, nor do I recall being aware of Mr. Stone having discussed WikiLeaks with individuals associated with my campaign, although I was aware that WikiLeaks was the subject of media reporting and campaign-related discussion at the time.”
House General Counsel Douglas Letter argued in federal court that this testimony made it necessary that the court order the Department of Justice to hand over the redacted grand jury material.
“Did the President lie? Was the President not truthful in his responses to the Mueller investigation?” House General Counsel Douglas Letter told a federal court.
This bombshell comes at a time when the Democrats’ impeachment witch hunt in the House faltered badly.
A Morning Consult poll found opposition to the impeachment inquiry spiked by ten points among independent voters.
Television viewership plunged each day as Americans lost interest in the Democrats’ hearings that essentially devolved into a human resources department complaint by whiny mid-level bureaucrats complaining that the duly elected President of the United States asserted his constitutional authority to set foreign policy.
The Democrats constantly shifting rationale for wanting to impeach President Trump demonstrates this entire exercise is nothing more than a partisan farce.
First the Democrats claimed they would produce evidence Donald Trump engaged in treasonous collusion with the Russians during the 2016 campaign.
Then Democrats shifted to proving the President obstructed justice during the Robert Mueller investigation.
Next the goal posts moved to claiming Donald Trump improperly pressured the Ukrainian government to enter into a corrupt quid pro quo over military aid in exchange for investigations into Joe Biden.
After Democrats’ polling showed that allegation failed to gain traction with the American people, Democrats moved on to the poll-tested charge that the President bribed Ukraine.
But now that witness after witness testified that they saw no evidence of bribery, Democrats are running out of credibility.
That’s because the initial witnesses called by the Democrats testified they had no evidence the President took part in any act of bribery and could not name any impeachable offenses committed by Donald Trump.
In the face of that failure, Democrats are now pushing the far-fetched conspiracy theory the President lied to Robert Mueller.
