Next year’s midterm elections are shaping up to be among the most consequential elections in American history.
One race stands out as the pivot point for which party will control the United States Senate.
And Sean Hannity teased a major election announcement that left everyone talking.
Anti-gun, pro-impeachment RINO Pat Toomey announced he would not seek a third term in 2022.
With the Senate split at 50/50 between Republicans and Democrats,Republicans only need to win a net gain of one seat to take back the majority in the Senate.
But in order to achieve that goal, Republicans need to hold Pat Toomey’s Senate seat in Pennsylvania.
Donald Trump endorsed Afghanistan war hero Sean Parnell.
But Parnell dropped out of the race after a judge – who critics blasted as motivated by politics – ruled Parnell’s ex-wife won sole custody of the couple’s children.
That opened the door for new candidates.
Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity hinted that a big-name candidate was about to jump into the race.
“Hint: Think midterm election,” Hannity told his audience.
That turned out to be celebrity Doctor Mehmet Oz.
Dr. Oz became a household name in 2009 when Oprah tapped Dr. Oz to serve as her medical expert.
Dr. Oz then began a popular syndicated TV show where Dr. Oz promoted homeopathic health treatments.
Now Dr. Oz is running for Senate in Pennsylvania casting himself as the candidate willing to challenge public health tyrants like Dr. Fauci that ordered failed lockdowns and mandates in a futile effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
“Instead, the government mandated policies that caused unnecessary suffering. The public was patronized and misled instead of empowered. We were told to lock down quietly and let those in charge take care of the rest. When we tested positive for the virus, we were also told to wait at home until our lips turned blue and we got sick enough to warrant hospitalization. To be clear, this is not a typical medical protocol. Elites with yards told those without yards to stay inside, where the virus was more likely to spread. And the arrogant, closed-minded people in charge closed our parks, shuttered our schools, shut down our businesses, and took away our freedom,” Dr. Oz wrote in a piece published in the Washington Examiner announcing his candidacy.
Dr. Oz will face some challenges.
In 2007 Dr. Oz described himself as a moderate Republican in the mold of RINO California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Dr. Oz also supported ending the ban on Centers for Disease Control funding for research to study gun violence as a public health crisis.
But Dr. Oz also stands a strong chance of winning an endorsement from Donald Trump.
Dr. Oz supported Trump’s 2016 campaign and when Trump appeared on Dr. Oz’s show Trump told Dr. Oz that Melania Trump was a big fan of Dr. Oz’s show.
Both parties eye the Pennsylvania Senate race as the key contest that will determine control of the U.S. Senate.
With a political environment likely to favor Republicans next year, any Republican with any hint of an interest in politics wants to run for office.
And Dr. Oz is the latest Republican to throw his hat into the ring.
