The bad news could not have come at a worse time for the Democrat Party.
With just weeks remaining before the 2020 election, the Democrats are staring down the barrel of a massive scandal.
And now the Army was just called in to investigate this big-name Democrat.
Cal Cunningham’s candidacy in the North Carolina Senate race is in tatters.
The National File exclusively reported that Cunningham sexted with medical marijuana lobbyist Arlene Guzman Todd.
But Cunningham’s political problem is now a legal problem because Cunningham was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve at the time of the affair.
Chief of media relations and public information for the Army Reserve Strategic Communications Simon Flake confirmed the Army Reserve was conducting an investigation.
“The Army Reserve is investigating the matters involving Lt. Col. James Cunningham. As such, we are unable to provide further details at this time,” Flake told the press.
Retired member of the Judge Advocate General Mark Sullivan said Cunningham could face penalties if he conducted the affair while he was on active duty or drills or training.
“Was there duty status of the individual in connection with the misconduct?” Sullivan told WRAL. “The word ‘duty status’ means, for a reservist or a guardsman, did it occur during the time that the individual was serving on active duty or a drill weekend or annual training.”
More text messages surfaced from Guzman Todd indicating that they did not just flirt over text message.
Guzman Todd’s communications appeared to confirm a sexual relationship.
“I just want to [expletive] him one last time and break his heart,” Guzman Todd wrote.
“Trying to make plans to see the politician so I can give him the [expletive] of his life and then walk away,” another text read.
Cunningham temporarily went into hiding when this story broke and even canceled a previously scheduled town hall event.
The Democrats cannot afford Cunningham’s candidacy to implode.
The North Carolina Senate race is vital in determining which party controls the Senate next year.
If the Democrats win the North Carolina Senate race, they will likely control the Senate and can eliminate the legislative filibuster, pack the Supreme Court with up to six liberal justices, add Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico as states as well as the passing of massive amnesty and gun confiscation legislation.
But if Thom Tillis holds on because voters recoil at Cunningham’s alleged affair then the Republicans stand a good chance of holding the Senate.
If Donald Trump wins the election, that means Republicans can continue to confirm judges at a breakneck pace.
And should Joe Biden win the election, that means the Republican Senate can slam the brakes on the Democrats’ socialist agenda.
