Nancy Pelosi’s always figured that moderate Democrats that represent swing districts always roll over without a fight as the left enacts a radical agenda.
That’s why a letter Pelosi received shocked Washington.
Nine moderate Democrats dispatched a letter to Nancy Pelosi declaring that they will reject Bernie Sanders’ 3.5-trillion-dollar socialist spending bill unless Pelosi immediately brings up the 1.2-trillion-dollar fake infrastructure bill that just passed the Senate.
“Some have suggested that we hold off on considering the Senate infrastructure bill for months – until the reconciliation process is completed. We disagree. With the livelihoods of hardworking American families at stake, we simply can’t afford months of unnecessary delays and risk squandering this once-in-a-century, bipartisan infrastructure package. It’s time to get shovels in the ground and people to work. We will not consider voting for a budget resolution until the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passes the House and is signed into law,” the moderate Democrats wrote.
Pelosi planned to link the two bills together because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the “Squad” won’t support the $1.2-trillion bill – because it doesn’t spend enough on the Green New Deal – until the Senate passes Bernie Sanders’ socialist spending bill.
But the moderates that represent swing districts – the ones that determine which party controls Congress – realize two can play at that game.
Usually, the moderates fall into line and Pelosi worries about placating the far-left flank of the House Democratic Caucus.
But moderate Democrats are terrified about voting on a Bernie Sanders-branded budget that imposes the biggest expansion of government since the 1960s.
Pelosi linked the two bills because Ocasio-Cortez and her allies feared moderates would tank the larger bill after winning passage of the fake infrastructure bill.
There is reason to think that could happen.
The Sanders budget includes the largest tax increase in American history, Green New Deal provisions and cradle-to-grave welfare state programs.
Republicans only need to flip six seats to win the House.
In 2020 Republicans won every tossup race in the House of Representatives by slamming Democrats as the party of “defund the police” and socialism.
Voting for the Bernie Sanders 3.5-trillion-dollar socialist spending bill presents Republicans with a target-rich environment in next November’s election.
But Joe Biden’s presidency hangs in the balance.
If his own party tanks his agenda, then the American people will judge him to be a failed president.
That will put tremendous pressure on House Democrats to back down and support both bills.
However, politicians care about their own jobs first and foremost so holdout House Democrats could still sink the Biden multi-trillion-dollar spending binge.
