Democrats dug through their entire playbook to find a way to stop her.
McConnell released an article in the Washington Post which outlines how Barrett is a good choice for justice and will not “strip America of its freedoms.”
And now the Supreme Court fight to confirm Amy Coney Barrett took this surprising turn.
Now, Michael McConnell tells liberals to calm down.
The left has been throwing a non-stop tantrum since Trump announced Amy Coney Barrett’s path to the Supreme Court.
The left didn’t even want Trump to nominate anyone in the first place, raising objection after objection as to why he should wait till after the election.
But Trump forged ahead and the left is not happy about it.
They pitched a fit over the fact that Donald Trump picked a conservative woman to replace the far-left Ginsburg.
They believe Barrett will cast the deciding vote to overturn their two sacred cows: abortion on demand and Obamacare.
They believe she will take away abortion rights because she and her husband are practicing Catholics.
On the subject of Roe v. Wade, he said:
“There are reasons Roe is so resilient — and one of them is not the legal persuasiveness of the opinion, which is nil. But the ruling is nearly a half-century old and has been reaffirmed multiple times by justices of both parties. Such a decision will not be lightly overruled. And whatever one may think of abortion, the practice is so widespread and ingrained, and the right to it so intensely defended by a significant minority of Americans, that trying to use the force of the state to end it would wrench the nation apart — while almost surely failing.”
In summation, Barrett as an individual would not be able to overturn a ruling like Roe v. Wade on her own.
But another of the left’s complaints against Barrett is that she would demolish Obamacare.
McConnell has an answer to that as well.
He states that to believe Barrett’s appointment as a justice would invalidate Obamacare is “far-fetched” to say the least.
It is true that Obamacare’s constitutionality will be challenged in the Supreme Court very soon.
However, it would take the vote of over five justices to overturn Obamacare as a whole, not just one.
And McConnell does not believe the motion will receive the votes needed to overturn it anyway.
In summation, McConnell’s article boils down to one overarching premise: One justice alone cannot rip apart the country.
They absolutely have the power to institute change, but the changes they aspire to make must be supported by their fellow justices.
Thus, McConnell is effectively saying the left is freaking out for nothing.
Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination does not mean the country will explode, as much as the left claims it will.
