Many political observers expect Kamala Harris to lead the Democrat Party ticket in 2024.
But not every Democrat feels that way.
And now this major criminal allegation may change Kamala Harris’ life forever.
Joe Biden will be 82 years old in 2024.
Biden’s advanced age and growing questions about his senility lead many to expect that Biden will step aside and not run for re-election three years from now.
But will Kamala Harris get a free shot at the Democrat Party nomination?
One Democrat that could challenge Harris is Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer.
Tucker Carlson and others routinely rip Whitmer as the worst governor in America, but as the governor of a key swing state, Whitmer could launch a strong bid for the Democrat Party nomination.
But Whitmer looks like she has an Andrew Cuomo problem.
Like Andrew Cuomo, Whitmer was one of five governors that mandated nursing homes take in coronavirus patients.
Critics contend the orders given by Whitmer, Cuomo and others were criminally negligent and caused unnecessary deaths.
Peter Lucido is the prosecutor in Macomb County, Michigan and he agrees.
Lucido told the families whose relatives died in nursing homes to continue to push to get information about Governor Whitmer’s order because Lucido claims there could be evidence of criminal actions.
And Lucido told a local ABC affiliate that if there was evidence of a crime, his office would have no problem charging Governor Whitmer.
“If we find there’s been willful neglect of office, if we find there’s been reckless endangerment of a person’s life by bringing them in then we would move forward with charges against the Governor. Of course, we would,” he told ABC 7 WXYZ.
“Nobody’s above the law in this state,” Lucido added.
In a statement, Whitmer responded claiming her administration only took action to save lives.
“Early in the pandemic, the state acted swiftly to create a network of regional hubs with isolation units and adequate PPE to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within a facility. In addition, we have offered 100 percent of nursing home residents priority access to the vaccine. Both the former head of AARP, as well as an independent U-M study, praised our work to save lives in nursing homes,” Whitmer’s statement read.
But Republican State Representative House Oversight Committee Chairman Steve Johnson cast doubt on Whitmer’s denials and cited the $155,000 payment to former health department director Robert Gordon that Johnson and other Republicans claim was Whitmer paying Gordon hush money to buy Gordon’s silence about the consequences of Whitmer’s nursing home order.
“We have invited the department to come and testify before our oversight committee. They have refused to. We’ve asked them to share with us the data with the nursing home deaths. They refuse that. And now we see that the governor has paid the former health department director Robert Gordon $155,000 to stay quiet, which begs the question: what are they trying to hide,” Johnson declared.
Even if Whitmer does not face criminal charges, the multiple scandals swirling around Whitmer could cripple her presidential prospects and eliminate one potential challenger for Kamala Harris.
