The election of Donald Trump is likely the worst thing ever to happen in Nancy Pelosi’s life.
Her entire career is at threat all because of him being in office.
And she is now in more danger after a top Democrat revealed one fact that is keeping Pelosi up at night.
While President Trump is clearly House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s worst enemy, he isn’t all she needs to worry about.
In fact, there are some in her party that could be an even bigger threat to Pelosi than Trump.
There is a new wing in the party that supports far-left positions, popularly known as the “progressive wing” of the party.
The biggest figure in that wing of the party is Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Despite being a first-term Representative, she has a massive base of support.
Her upset election knocked out one of the highest-ranking Democrats in the House in an unprecedented election.
But one person who isn’t happy with Ocasio-Cortez is Nancy Pelosi, who sits much closer to the center of the political spectrum than Ocasio-Cortez.
And the feeling seems to be mutual.
In a recent interview, Ocasio-Cortez publicly blasted Pelosi and exposed that there is a lot of frustration with her not going far enough to the left.
Ocasio-Cortez was asked about “progressive frustration” with Pelosi, and she made it clear that it is a very real thing.
“I think it’s quite real,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I believe that there is a very real animus and desire to make sure that we are — that — that we are holding this president to account.”
One of the big frustrations is Pelosi’s lackluster support for impeachment.
Many believe she isn’t actually serious about it, and only pandering to rile up Democrats.
Ocasio-Cortez makes that clear in a response to a question about impeachment:
“I think that impeachment is incredibly serious, and this is about the presence and evidence that the president may have committed a crime, in this case, more than one. And so I believe that our decision on impeachment should be based in our constitutional responsibilities and duties and not in elections or polling.”
This isn’t the first time the two have gotten into it with each other.
In a recent USA Today interview, Speaker Pelosi took a swipe at Ocasio-Cortez, and her ability to get things done in the House.
“While there are people who have a large number of Twitter followers,” Pelosi said, “What’s important is that we have large numbers of votes on the floor of the House.”
Ocasio-Cortez has over a million more Twitter followers than Pelosi, and consistently gets a larger amount of engagement on her posts.
Pelosi even recently went after Ocasio-Cortez as unelectable in future elections.
Speaking to a crowd, she singled out Ocasio-Cortez and others in the “progressive caucus,” holding up a glass of water and stating, “This glass of water would win with a ‘D’ next to its name in those districts.”
So while Pelosi is battling it out with President Trump, she still has to deal with her own party, who clearly don’t stand very strongly with her.
