The anti-Trump resistance has some powerful allies.
Many in law enforcement positions are even on their side.
And a top law enforcement official is about to destroy Trump’s entire life.
Democrats didn’t do nearly as well as they were expecting in the midterm elections.
Despite winning back the House, Republicans were able to increase their majority in the Senate.
So there isn’t much Democrats can do to attack Trump at the federal level.
But Democrats have a secondary plan that many didn’t see coming.
In a number of states, Democrats were able to elect radical anti-Trump extremists as attorney generals.
The attorney general is the top law enforcement officer in each respective state.
In Minnesota, outgoing Rep. Keith Ellison was elected as attorney general.
He is well known for being on the far left, even signaling his support for the violent extremist group, Antifa.
But it isn’t Ellison who Trump will have to worry about.
In New York, Democrat Letitia James was elected to their top law enforcement position.
She publicly proclaims her opposition to President Trump, which was the main pillar of her platform while running for office.
Her website states that she “will root out corruption no matter where it lies — whether that be with state officials, members of the Trump Administration, or with the President himself.”
And since being elected, she is making it clear she will do everything in her power to go after Trump.
“We will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family as well,” James told NBC News in an interview released Wednesday morning. “We want to investigate anyone in his orbit who has, in fact, violated the law.”
This is clear political targeting in an extremely shocking way.
It is one thing to go after somebody suspected of committing a crime, but to do everything in your power to find a crime is a draconian abuse of power.
But she isn’t the only one taking that approach.
Democrats in the House also say they will run investigations into Trump’s private business life.
It is likely that the investigations will intersect, but it may cause problems for the Democrats.
A double jeopardy case hitting the Supreme Court could put the brakes on their scheme.
Currently, an individual can face the same charges in both the state and federal court.
But a case from a man convicted of a gun charge in both a state and federal court may make it illegal.
This case is also trouble for Mueller.
In the case that Trump pardons individuals facing charges in both state and federal court, Democrats are likely to bring the charges up in state court.
But regardless of what happens, it is abundantly clear that Trump is under a microscope and any possible wrongdoing will be blown way out of proportion.
