Chris Wallace’s embarrassing pro-Biden performance as moderator of the first presidential debate infuriated President Trump and his supporters.
Since that night, Wallace’s news coverage on Fox has only tilted farther to the left.
But Trey Gowdy went on Fox News and shut down Chris Wallace with this reality check.
On the first day of Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings,“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace made a spectacle of himself with his Democrat Party cheerleading.
In a previous segment, Trey Gowdy commented that Supreme Court hearings had become so politicized compared to when the Senate unanimously confirmed Antonin Scalia.
Chris Wallace picked up on that remark and turned it around into an attack on Republicans by falsely claiming that Senate Republicans exercising their constitutional prerogative to reject Barack Obama’s nominee refused to hold even a hearing for Garland.
“Congressman Gowdy suggested ‘How did we get from almost unanimous votes for Ruth Bader Ginsburg and a unanimous vote for Antonin Scalia to the hyper-partisan situation we’re in now?’” Wallace ranted. “There is not one step. You have to look back at 2016 when Antonin Scalia died suddenly and with, I think, 269 days to go President Obama named Merrick Garland as his nominee to the court.”
What Wallace then called “raw political power” was merely a function of Republicans having won a majority in the Senate in 2014 and exerting their right as the majority party.
“In an exercise of pure political power—not to say it’s unconstitutional, but they simply decided they weren’t going to entertain or meet with Merrick Garland or have a hearing on Merrick Garland—now with three weeks, 22 days, left to go they’re having the hearing for Judge Barrett,” Wallace concluded.
Trey Gowdy responded by blowing Wallace’s falsehood out of the water.
Gowdy noted that ten years prior to Garland’s nomination, 40 Senate Democrats voted against Justice Samuel Alito’s confirmation.
“I would like to make one point,” Gowdy retorted. “I pointed out that Scalia had zero ‘No’ votes and Amy Coney Barrett will get zero ‘Yes’ votes from Democrats. And Mr. Wallace said what happened was Merrick Garland, that can’t possibly be what happened because Samuel Alito got 40 ‘No’ Democrat votes a decade before there was somebody named Merrick Garland!”
In point of fact, it was the Democrats – led by Senator Ted Kennedy – who turned Supreme Court nominations into partisan brawls when Kennedy smeared Robert Bork, claiming Bork would reinstitute Jim Crow-era segregation laws.
Democrats only escalated from there, employing false allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault against Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh.
The left’s lies and character assassination failed to stop the Senate from confirming Thomas and Kavanaugh.
But for Wallace – who has covered politics for over 40 years – to totally gloss over the most recent history of Supreme Court confirmation hearings shows that he has surrendered to his Trump Derangement Syndrome and is all on helping Joe Biden by making Republicans look as bad as possible with lies.
