Robert Mueller is gunning for Donald Trump.
The special counsel will not rest until he digs up something he can use to take the President down for good.
And Trump was just warned about the one thing that could send him to prison.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared on ABC’s ‘This Week.’
The former head of the Trump transition – he was removed and replaced with Vice President Mike Pence – warned Trump about sitting for an interview with Mueller.
Christie stated that if Trump engages in hyperbole with Mueller, he could wind up in prison.
Real Clear Politics reports:
“On ABC’s ‘This Week’ roundtable, former N.J. Gov. Chris Christie warns President Trump not to “be hyperbolic” when he meets with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
“He’s a salesman,” Christie said about Trump. “And salesmen at times tend to be hyperbolic.” And this president, certainly, has tended to be that.”
“That’s ok when you’re out on the campaign… or working on Congress. It is not ok when you’re sitting talking to federal agents,” he warned. “As a former U.S. attorney and someone who would be sitting on the other side of that table, I’ve said this all along… He should never walk into that room with Robert Mueller.”
“18 U.S. Code § 1001 is false statements to federal agents, that is a crime that can send you to jail,” Christie warned.”
Trump supporters are worried Mueller is laying a trap for the President.
The collusion investigation is a bust.
And Trump had every Constitutional right to fire James Comey for any reason.
The FBI Director reports to the President, not the other way around.
That means the President cannot obstruct justice when he carries out his lawful duties.
So Mueller needs another avenue to recommend Congress impeach Trump or to bring charges.
If Mueller interviews the President, he will have a prime setting to ensnare Trump in a perjury trap.
If Trump misremembers a date or speaks in exaggerations, Mueller could claim he lied to investigators.
There is nothing to gain from an interview with Mueller.
These interviews are not done to obtain the facts or get the subject’s side of the story.
Mueller will conduct this interview to see if Trump’s version of events line up 100% with what other witnesses have told him.
If it differs in the slightest, Mueller will pounce and claim Trump acted criminally by lying to him.
Do you agree that Trump should refuse any interview with Robert Mueller?
