President Trump is realizing some bad news.
The President is finding out even more forces within the government are fighting against his re-election campaign.
Donald Trump may have to fire a top general after he disobeyed this direct order.
President Trump won the 2016 election in large part on his promise to end America’s involvement in endless wars.
The President’s tried to make good on this promise by ordering withdrawals of American troops.
But every time the President tries to bring soldiers home he faces mutiny at the highest levels of the Pentagon.
When President Trump ordered an end to Barack Obama’s war in Syria, Secretary of Defense James Mattis resigned in protest.
As President Trump prepared to order a drawdown of American troops in Afghanistan to 4,500 by November, a Deep State leaker fed The New York Times a false story about the Russians paying bounties to the Taliban to kill American soldiers.
But President Trump never faced outright disobedience like he has from Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley.
President Trump recently posted on social media that all U.S. troops in Afghanistan should be home by Christmas.
“We should have the small remaining number of our BRAVE Men and Women serving in Afghanistan home by Christmas!” the President wrote on social media.
In an interview with NPR, General Milley defied President Trump’s order by saying the military would stick with the withdrawal timeline laid out in the peace agreement with the Taliban that put off possibly bringing American troops home until next spring.
“That was the decision of the president on a conditions-based withdrawal,” General Milley stated. “So we’re monitoring all of those conditions closely. And we’re, the military, are giving our best military advice on those conditions so that the president can make an informed, deliberate, responsible decision.”
General Milley also disputed an assertion by National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien that the U.S. would drawdown to 2,500 troops in Afghanistan by early next year.
“I think that Robert O’Brien or anyone else can speculate as they see fit,” General Milley exclaimed. “I’m going to engage in the rigorous analysis of the situation based on the conditions and the plans that I am aware of and my conversations with the president.”
It is not up to General Milley to set troop levels in Afghanistan.
That is the call of the President of the United States.
By disobeying President Trump’s order, General Milley is pushing America into a dangerous place.
In third world banana republics, military juntas rule the country or whichever politician can command the loyalty of the majority of the military holds power.
The founders avoided that by establishing civilian control over the military.
General Milley ignoring an order by the President is another example of how it is really Donald Trump’s opponents who are the ones waging war on democratic institutions and constitutional norms.
