President Trump has a plan to manage the Chinese coronavirus and get the economy back moving again.
But a curveball was just thrown his way.
That’s because Donald Trump’s doctor hit the President with this bad news about the coronavirus.
United States Surgeon General Doctor Jerome Adams made the rounds on the morning shows to make sure the American people received a loud and clear message – the coronavirus outbreak was going to get worse before it gets better.
Appearing on the “Today Show,” Dr. Adams warned the public that the number of cases would skyrocket this week and that the public needed to do its part to contain the outbreak.
“I want America to understand, this week it’s going to get bad, and we really need to come together as a nation,” Adams stated. “I heard the stories that you were just playing: young people out on beaches. We see here in D.C. that the district set up a cam for people to watch the cherry blossoms. You look on the cam. You see more people walking around than you see cherry blossoms.”
The Surgeon General explained that the American people needed to adhere to the social distancing guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control if the United States hoped to avoid a catastrophic outbreak like one horrifying the world over in Italy.
“And this is how the spread is occurring. And so we really, really need everyone to stay at home,” Dr. Adams told the “Today” show audience.
“I think that there are a lot of people who are doing the right things, but I think that, unfortunately, we’re finding out a lot of people think this can’t happen to them,” Adams declared.
Dr. Adams warned that there were other major U.S. cities that were not yet hot spots, but quickly could transform into epicenters of the outbreak unless the American people followed the social distancing measures.
“We don’t want Dallas or New Orleans or Chicago to turn into the next New York, and it means everyone needs to be taking the right steps right now, and that means stay at home,” Dr. Adams implored.
Dr. Adams’ dire warnings came on a day that President Trump made it clear that the economic shutdown caused by social distancing would soon have to come to an end.
“WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!” the President tweeted in all caps.
The President is facing a difficult balancing act.
If the shutdowns last more than a few weeks, the resulting economic damage could crush entire sectors of America.
But if the social distancing measures are done away with prematurely, America could encounter a second epidemic that would completely overwhelm the healthcare system and lead to even more loss of life.
