As the federal shutdown drags on, Democrats continue to come up with excuses to oppose a wall.
Their latest argument proves just how out of touch the left has become.
And Tucker Carlson just destroyed one of the left’s open borders activists in just a few words.
The Democrats oppose President Trump’s wall.
That much is obvious, but the question as to why isn’t so straightforward.
Democrats used to support border security, but now they almost universally stand against it.
The truth is that the left is against President Trump’s wall not because it won’t work but because it will.
But that isn’t stopping Democrats from making bogus arguments to the contrary.
This week, Democratic political commentator Jonathan Harris went on Tucker Carlson’s show on Fox News to debate the conservative host about the merits of President Trump’s proposal.
Harris instantly regretted the decision.
The Daily Caller reports, “Harris quickly managed to paint himself into a corner as he attempted to justify Democratic leadership’s refusal to give President Trump money to fund a border barrier.”
“There’s a difference between a physical barrier — most of which is already in place — and a concrete wall which Trump wants,” Harris said as the two began discussing the issue.
“What is the difference between what they have voted for and what [Trump is] proposing?” Carlson asked.
Carlson then proceeded to destroy Harris’ entire narrative, as well as any arguments the left has been able to come up with against building a wall.
“Democrats are saying his proposal is immoral,” Carlson countered. “Their proposal is moral. What’s the difference between an immoral and a moral physical barrier on our border?”
Harris responded that the difference is because the border wall will cost $5 billion.
But in doing so, he walked right into Carlson’s trap.
“So any time we spend $5 billion needlessly, we’re committing an immoral act?” Carlson asked.
Harris couldn’t respond. The Democrats have thrown trillions of dollars of taxpayer money on failed plans ranging from the bailouts to the Obama stimulus packages in 2009 and 2010.
$5 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money Democrats have thrown away on failed pet projects.
Carlson then finished by pointing out something most people already know, but is rarely brought up in public.
“So the cost, the nature of the barrier, those are not relevant to anything,” said Carlson. “What we’re talking about is the fear what Trump is proposing might actually work. That’s the actual problem.”
In doing so, he hit the nail right on the head.
Democrats couldn’t care less about how much the wall costs. They routinely propose spending bills that throw away trillions of dollars of taxpayer money.
Democrats couldn’t care less about how much anything the government does costs. Their entire agenda is predicated on expanding government power and control to encompass every conceivable thing on earth.
That is, everything except securing the country’s international borders.
In that regard, border security is the one thing Democrats aren’t willing to throw taxpayer money at.
And it’s because they know it’s one of the few things that government does have a responsibility to oversee and protect.
