Donald Trump is edging closer to a 2024 White House bid.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is also considered a prime 2024 GOP contender.
And what Donald Trump said about Ron DeSantis will leave you speechless.
The Washington Post recently reported that Donald Trump’s advisors talked him out of announcing a 2024 presidential campaign until after the 2022 midterms because of the vagaries of campaign finance law and to avoid Trump owning a bad outcome in the midterms if the GOP failed to take back the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Trump’s 2024 candidacy looks like a mere formality.
In the likely event that Donald Trump does run for president in 2024 the main question shifts to the size of the field of Republicans that would challenge Trump and if any candidates of any significance enter the race.
The potential challenger drawing the most attention right now is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis built a following among all factions of the Republican Party by standing up to Dr. Fauci’s tyranny and opposing oppressive mask and vaccine mandates.
Governor DeSantis also took the lead in fighting Big Tech censorship by signing legislation fining social media companies if they ban political candidates.
These moves drew the ire of the corporate media but DeSantis fighting back against media smear campaigns only made DeSantis’ star shine brighter in the GOP.
Because of all these successful fights, polls show Ron DeSantis leading the field for the 2024 Republican presidential primary if Donald Trump does not run.
Yahoo Finance asked Trump about the possibility of facing Ron DeSantis in the 2024 GOP presidential primary.
Trump dismissed the idea saying he would defeat DeSantis if DeSantis challenged him.
“If I faced him, I’d beat him like I would beat everyone else,” Trump told Yahoo.
But Trump added that if he ran for president, he did not believe Governor DeSantis would enter the race.
“I don’t think I will face him,” Trump added. “I think most people would drop out, I think he would drop out.”
For his part, Ron DeSantis played down the idea of running for president in 2024, let alone challenging Trump explaining that his day as governor of Florida provided him plenty to focus on.
“I’m not considering anything beyond doing my job,” DeSantis said in an interview with Fox News stating that “we’ve got a lot of stuff going on in Florida.”
Trump’s 2018 endorsement of Ron DeSantis rocketed DeSantis from a bottom of the pack also-ran to the governorship of the nation’s largest swing state.
But as popular as Ron DeSantis is with Republican voters, Donald Trump is still the leader of the GOP.
And if Trump runs for president, serious contenders like Ron DeSantis will not run and only Never Trumpers like Maryland Governor Larry Hogan are likely to challenge Trump.
