Democrats in the House have zeroed in on their next target in the fight to remove Donald Trump from office.
It is Attorney General William Barr.
And Nancy Pelosi just dropped a big hint about their plans to put Barr in jail.
On Wednesday, the Trump administration announced it was asserting executive privilege over the Mueller report.
Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee had demanded Barr produce the unredacted report in violation of federal law.
Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd explained the President’s assertion of executive privilege in a letter to Congress.
“Accordingly, this is to advise you that the President has asserted executive privilege over the entirety of the subpoenaed materials. As I indicated in my letter to you last night, this protective assertion of executive privilege ensures the President’s ability to make a final decision whether to assert privilege following a full review of these materials. See Protective Assertion of Executive Privilege Regarding White House Counsel ?s Office Documents, 20 Op. O.L.C. 1 (1996) (opinion of Attorney General Janet Reno). Regrettably, you have made this assertion necessary by your insistence upon scheduling a premature contempt vote,” Boyd’s letter stated.
Democrats reacted in predictable fashion.
The House Judiciary Committee voted 24-16 along partisan lines to hold Attorney General Barr in contempt of Congress for his refusal to break the law.
“Our fight is not just about the Mueller report — although we must have access to the Mueller report,” chairman Jerry Nadler roared during the committee’s debate.
“Our fight is about defending the rights of Congress, as an independent branch, to hold the president, any president, accountable.”
“We are now in a constitutional crisis,” Nadler told reporters after the vote.
Washington Post reporter Robert Costa later asked Pelosi about the Democrats calls to arrest Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin for not forking over Donald Trump’s tax returns.
Pelosi joked that cabinet officials like Mnuchin and Barr could end up in the Capitol jail.
“We do have a little jail down in the basement of the Capitol, but if we were arresting all of the people in the administration, we would have an overcrowded jail situation. And I’m not for that,” Pelosi told Costa.
The fight over the unredacted Mueller report is a fake fight staged by Democrats and their willing accomplices in the fake news media.
A Mueller report where only two full pages and seven partial line-of-text pages of the report were redacted is available in a secure location for any member of Congress to read.
To date, not a single Democrat has availed themselves the opportunity to comb through the report they claim Barr is covering up.
And in order to jail Barr, the House will have to order the Sergeant at Arms to arrest the Attorney General.
Congress has not exercised that power since the 1920s.
But in this emotionally charged environment where Democrats want President Trump gone by any means necessary, Americans are unsure just far how Democrats are willing to push this madness.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this ongoing story.
