Democrats are losing in the court of public opinion on impeachment.
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her top allies did not put all their eggs in one basket.
And now one court made this major impeachment ruling that left Trump seething with rage.
House Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff subpoenaed Donald Trump’s private financial records as part of the Democrats’ impeachment hoax.
A district court judge ruled they were entitled to those records.
The President’s lawyers appealed to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals to stay the order, but in an outrageous two to one decision the court rejected the stay.
“The Committees’ interests in pursuing their constitutional legislative function is a far more significant public interest than whatever public interest inheres in avoiding the risk of a Chief Executive’s distraction arising from disclosure of documents reflecting his private financial transactions,” the 2nd Circuit panel said in its ruling.
Trump Attorney Jay Sekulow blasted the ruling and made it clear the President’s legal team was considering an appeal to the Supreme Court.
“We believe the subpoena is invalid as issued,” Sekulow said in a statement. “In light of the Second Circuit decision, we are evaluating our next options including seeking review at the Supreme Court of the United States.”
The President’s lawyers are also likely to appeal a previous ruling to the Supreme Court that Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee can subpoena the President’s tax returns.
Waters and Schiff are after the President’s financial records on the half baked conspiracy theory that the President is concealing evidence of financial fraud and money laundering that will uncover a plot between Donald Trump and the Russians to rig the 2016 Presidential Election.
President Trump previously stated that Robert Mueller combed through his financial records and tax returns and found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
Democrats initially made the President’s tax returns a backup impeachment plan in case Robert Mueller’s investigation bombed out.
That’s exactly what happened.
But weeks after Mueller’s stumbling, inept and incoherent appearance before Congress, alleged “whistleblower” Eric Ciaramella colluded with Adam Schiff’s staff to set the Ukraine scam in motion.
Democrats would like to wrap up impeachment as quickly as possible since they know they are going to lose and don’t want a Senate trial interfering with the 2020 presidential campaign.
The impeachment hoax boosted President Trump’s poll numbers in the key swing state of Wisconsin, and the longer it goes on, the more political damage Democrats will incur.
If the President appeals this ruling to the Supreme Court, that punts a decision down the road until June, far too late for impeachment.
But if Democrats win at the Supreme Court they could still leak details from the President’s tax returns to the fake news media so corrupt “reporters” could frame the tidbits from Trump’s tax returns in the most negative light possible to try and harm the President’s re-election chances.
