The Democrats made a huge mistake not handling the violent protesters.
But one’s catastrophic decisions stand out above the rest.
A critical failure in the riots could get a top Democrat thrown out of office.
The reason that many of the Black Lives Matter protests lead to violence is because the goals of the organization aren’t about saving black lives.
If that were the case, they would actually be concerned about the rising crime in black neighborhoods.
The eleven lives that were lost in the protests aren’t even worthy of much notice by the mainstream media.
In Seattle, Mayor Jenny Durkan ignored the violent crimes and the fact that protesters tried to annex a part of her city.
If she had been a decent human being, she would have let the police move in when the protesters first broke laws by building barricades.
Instead, she defended the occupation calling it a “summer of love” and didn’t allow police to remove the protesters blocking roadways for several weeks.
Durkan only allowed police to end the experiment after two teenagers died and Seattle City was sued by the residents and businesses that were displaced by the protesters.
Now citizens of Seattle got the green light from a Superior Court judge to try and get their incompetent mayor removed.
A petition to have a recall election has been approved by Judge Mary Roberts.
“Jenny Durkan’s abuses of power, lack of foresight and failure to protect the public — and the peace — in Seattle leaves us with no choice,” said Elliott Harvey, the lead petitioner and the chair of the Committee to Recall Jenny Durkan. “This is exactly the kind of case a recall is intended to address.”
“Twenty years is a sufficient time frame to gain the hindsight needed to respect the legal rights and protections of the public,” Harvey added.
The petition will need to gather over 50,000 signatures in order to trigger the recall election.
Durkan’s chief of staff Stephanie Formas claimed, in response to the petition, that the mayor“consistently has acted to protect the City’s public health and safety and to respect the constitutional rights to peaceful protesters.”
But many in Seattle disagree with that assessment of how the mayor handled the situation.
The ballot that Judge Roberts approved states, “As alleged by [the petitioners], shall Jenny Durkan be recalled from office for misfeasance, malfeasance, and violation of the oath of office, based on the following charge: Mayor Durkan endangered the peace and safety of the community and violated her duties under state and local laws and her oath to uphold the federal and state constitutions.”
Durkan failed her city and hopefully the people of Seattle will be able to find better leadership.
