Joe Biden is scrambling to fix a shocking hack that he wasn’t protected against.
He couldn’t believe the message that went out.
A disastrous security breach is causing Joe Biden’s campaign major problems.
Most of Joe Biden’s problems on the campaign trail have been caused by his own unfortunate remarks.
The former Vice President, who is 77 years old, has had trouble remembering basic facts like the current year, Obama’s name and the name of the coronavirus.
Democratic leadership have openly admitted that they want to keep Joe Biden in his basement as much as possible.
So it must be a relief for his campaign to be cleaning up a problem caused by someone other than Biden.
Joe Biden’s official Twitter account was hacked along with the accounts of several other prominent figures on Twitter including former President Obama, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
The message posted by Biden promised a get-rich-quick scheme.
“I am giving back to the community. All Bitcoin sent to the address below will be sent back double! If you sent $1,000, I will send back $2,000. Only doing this for 30 minutes,” was posted on Joe Biden’s official Twitter page.
A spokesperson for the Biden campaign told CNN: “Twitter locked down the account immediately following the breach and removed the related tweet. We remain in touch with Twitter on the matter.”
Twitter responded by limiting the ability of prominent accounts while they tried to “review and address this incident.”
According to The Verge, this cyber-attack suggested “that someone has either found a severe security loophole in Twitter’s login process or has gained access to a Twitter employee’s admin privileges.”
The Bitcoin address that the hackers tweeted out received more than $110,000 worth of Bitcoin even though Coinbase, a common Bitcoin exchange, quickly blocked its users from sending money to the address.
“These scams work because of a gambling mentality—give a little bit of money, get a lot of money,” Ronnie Tokazowski, an email security researcher at Agari, told Wired. “Just the idea of risk versus reward. It’s especially dangerous right now because so many people are struggling.”
The FBI says that theyare looking into the incident.
The FBI had said: “We are aware of today’s security incident involving several Twitter accounts belonging to high profile individuals. The accounts appear to have been compromised in order to perpetuate cryptocurrency fraud.”
Twitter stock has dropped.
The company has worked to try and silence President Trump in the past by taking down a video he posted of Joe Biden stumbling with his words, claiming that the video had been deceptively edited.
