Joe Biden’s run of bad headlines continued.
The 2024 campaign is not off to the start Biden expected.
And a top ally just flipped on Joe Biden to help Donald Trump.
Back in June 2021, Facebook — now known as Meta — announced its Oversight Board came to the decision that Donald Trump’s suspension would last two years.
“We are today announcing new enforcement protocols to be applied in exceptional cases such as this, and we are confirming the time-bound penalty consistent with those protocols which we are applying to Mr. Trump’s accounts. Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr. Trump’s suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols. We are suspending his accounts for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7 this year,” Meta’s announcement read.
Meta — like every other Big Tech platform — suspended Trump after the events of January 6.
Democrats pressured their Silicon Valley allies for years to boot Trump.
And in the wake of January 6, Meta, Twitter, Google, and others all seized on the phony narrative that Trump incited an insurrection in order to comply with the Democrats’ censorship demands.
The two-year suspension period is up.
And Axios scooped the fact that Meta will reinstate Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
“Meta will reinstate former President Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts ‘in coming weeks’ following a two-year suspension, according to Nick Clegg, the company’s president, global affairs,” Axios exclusively reported.
Meta executive Nick Clegg explained that Trump running for president played a major role in the company restoring Trump’s posting privileges.
“We’ve always believed that Americans should be able to hear from the people who want to lead the country,” Clegg said in an interview with Axios. “We don’t want to stand in the way of that.”
Clegg told Axios that Meta would subject Trump to censorship rules that would lock his account and prevent him from running ads.
Facebook is a platform candidates need to raise money and build lists of supporters.
Trump would face a massive disadvantage in both the Republican primary and a general election without access to the site.
Once Meta said Trump’s suspension was time-limited it was inevitable that the company would let him back on.
But Clegg told Axios that if Trump claims the 2024 election is rigged the company will suspend his account once again.
Democrats are losing some of the censorship advantages that helped rig the 2020 election for Joe Biden.
Elon Musk owning Twitter loosened some of the rules to promote free speech.
It’s also unlikely Twitter will comply with FBI and Democrat demands to censor negative stories about Joe Biden like what happened in 2020 with the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story.
Meta will also face intense pressure to back off its censorship regime.
And without being able to count on Big Tech to censor his opponents Joe Biden lost one of his biggest advantages.
