With the 2020 election getting closer every day, Democrats are ramping up their campaigns.
If any of them are able to win against Trump, they will become the new leader of the party.
And while trying to do that a top Democrat spread one insane lie that will destroy their entire career.
Going into the 2020 election, no candidate had more potential than Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke.
The Texas Congressman was fresh off a campaign to take on Ted Cruz in Texas, and had massive amounts of momentum on his side.
But in shifting from a state-level campaign to a federal level campaign, he quickly found out he needs to shake things up.
So he is moving from being the more centrist Democrat that made him popular in Texas, to a far-left extremist who makes Hillary Clinton look like a Republican in comparison.
He supports completely open borders, giving healthcare to illegal immigrants, and forcibly confiscating firearms from Americans.
And to separate himself from the rest of the crowd, he went on a rant about how both Republicans and Democrats have been too harsh on illegal immigration.
He falsely claims that the 700 mile border fence causes thousands of deaths.
“Democrats and Republicans, alike, voted to build a wall that has produced thousands of deaths of people trying to cross to join family or to work a job,” O’Rourke said instead of answering a question about the at least 4.5 million visa overstays living in the U.S.
In reality, the 3,000 deaths during the Obama Administration that occurred during illegal border crossings has to do with the dangerous trek itself, not the weak and incomplete “wall.”
Deaths at the border are going down under Trump due to his proactive security measures that disincentivize illegal immigration.
An actual wall is one of those things that will make crossing the border more difficult, therefore causing less people to take the trek.
Trump’s policies largely involve stronger policing at the border.
More people than ever before are being detained while crossing the border illegally.
Upwards of 100,000 illegal immigrants are detained every month while trying to cross the border.
If O’Rourke has his way, those people will be given full access to the U.S., and speedy access to full citizenship.
That will cause many hundreds of thousands more to cross the border every year, putting them at extreme risk.
So his claim is not only incorrect, but extremely dangerous.
But he does point out something valuable.
And that is that the current barrier on the border, while ineffective, was a measure supported by both Republicans and Democrats.
Up until Trump began his campaign for President, both parties have at least been in agreement that border security is important.
Barack Obama put many of the border policies Trump is currently using to slow down the flow of illegal immigration into effect.
But now, because Trump is in office, they are not willing to support any measures to secure the border, especially his plan to build a wall on the border.
Do you support building a wall?
