On the first day of the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump’s campaign was rocked by a bombshell report.
It involved one of the President’s earliest supporters.
And now a top Trump ally just resigned after confessing to this ugly sex scandal.
Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. set the tone for the massive Evangelical Christian turnout for Donald Trump by endorsing Trump in early 2016.
Ever since that moment, Falwell, Jr. became a target of the left because they sought to destroy anyone that helped Donald Trump win the Presidency.
That effort paid off as Falwell, Jr. resigned as President of Liberty University following a report his wife engaged in an affair with pool boy Giancarlo Granda, whom the couple met in Florida in 2012.
Granda and the Falwells went into business which caused the relationship to sour.
Falwell, Jr. went public with the affair in a statement to the Washington Examiner claiming that Granda blackmailed the Falwells by threatening to expose the affair unless they paid him money.
“It was like living on a roller coaster,” the Falwells’ statement to the Washington Examiner read. “While completely dedicating ourselves to Liberty, we were also suffering in silence during our personal time together, while simultaneously trying to manage and deal with this increasingly threatening behavior, which only worsened over time. We were doing our best to respectfully unravel this ‘fatal attraction’ type situation to protect our family and the university.”
The Falwells claimed the pressure from the threats became so unbearable that they had no choice but to admit the truth.
“While we tried to distance ourselves from him over time, he unfortunately became increasingly angry and aggressive. Eventually, he began threatening to publicly reveal this secret relationship with Becki and to deliberately embarrass my wife, family, and Liberty University unless we agreed to pay him substantial monies,” the statement continued.
For his part, Granda responded to the Falwells’ statement to the Washington Examiner with a statement of his own.
Granda denied any extortion and said Falwell, Jr. was a willing participant in the affair.
“Any allegation of extortion is falsely, defamatory and belied by clear documentary evidence. The Falwell’s attempt to sandbag me, and the Examiner, with a last minute story without providing the Examiner clear evidence that this was not simply an ‘affair’ with concocted allegations of extortion reeks desperation. The WHOLE truth will come out,” Granda stated.
This is a sad and ugly affair that ended Falwell, Jr.’s tenure as the President of Liberty University, the Christian school his father founded.
Falwell, Jr.’s time at Liberty was an unqualified success.
Under his leadership, the school emerged from debt, enrollment exploded and the athletics program blossomed with the basketball program advancing to the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament while football began to compete in the top tier Football Bowl Subdivision.
But all of that will be forgotten as Falwell, Jr.’s personal failings and fall from grace exit will be all anyone remembers.
