Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just made the worst mistake of her life.
The socialist Congresswoman from New York is always spoiling for a fight.
But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez picked the wrong target and just learned this painful lesson about challenging Donald Trump.
Impeachment talk is heating up around Washington.
Every day it seems like another Democrat comes out in favor of trying to nullify the results of the 2016 Presidential election.
But other than Maxine Waters, no Democrat has been more vocal about impeachment than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
President Trump highlighted her enthusiasm for impeachment on social media.
“Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “I think we have a very real risk of losing the Presidency to Donald Trump.” I agree, and that is the only reason they play the impeach card, which cannot be legally used!” Trump tweeted.
That was like waving a red cape in front of a bull.
There was no way Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could resist getting pulled into a twitter fight with the President of the United States.
Ocasio-Cortez followed up with a ridiculous response.
“Mr. President, you’re from Queens. You may fool the rest of the country, but I’ll call your bluff any day of the week. Opening an impeachment inquiry is exactly what we must do when the President obstructs justice, advises witnesses to ignore legal subpoenas, & more. Bye,” Ocasio-Cortez fired back.
By now, Ocasio-Cortez should know that President Trump isn’t bluffing on impeachment.
A recent CNN poll found 54 percent of Americans oppose impeachment.
Other polls found solid majorities of Americans believe the Democrats should drop the Russia investigation and move on to other issues.
But Democrats are incapable of doing so.
Even though fake news outlets like CNN and MSNBC regularly tout polls showing former Vice President Joe Biden leading Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2020 matchup, everyone knows those numbers are meaningless.
A 1983 Gallup poll found Walter Mondale leading Ronald Reagan 49 to 38 percent.
Mondale went on to win one state and the District of Columbia in one of the biggest landslide losses in American political history.
That’s why Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow impeachment supporters are pressing the panic button.
Deep down they know there is a very good chance Donald Trump will emerge from the 2020 campaign victorious.
So they need to circumvent the voters and employ the un-Democratic tool of impeachment to take President Trump off the board.
And while it is true that impeachment is the Constitutional remedy for Congress to ultimately check a President, the Founders never envisioned a party using fake news, information gleaned from foreign spies, and manufactured witch hunts to remove a chief executive.
Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz even stated his belief that the Supreme Court could step in and shut down a politically motivated impeachment proceeding that has no basis in law or fact.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is blind to all of this.
President Trump would be thrilled for the Democrats to kickoff a politically motivated impeachment proceeding.
Nothing would help the President more in his re-election campaign than his opponents proving to the world that they are untrustworthy extremists willing to use their power for the sole purpose of upending American democracy.
