New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ended up with egg on her face.
Ocasio-Cortez got burned once again by her penchant for always wanting to pick public fights.
And now Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was embarrassed after a massive public rejection.
What set Ocasio-Cortez off this time was a tweet from the House Republicans’ official account blasting Joe Biden’s failed economic policies.
“60% of workers report living paycheck-to-paycheck,” the House GOP posted on Twitter.
This tweet led to Ocasio-Cortez bizarrely claiming raising the federal minimum wage would fix this problem.
“And yet y’all still voted against raising the minimum wage,” Ocasio-Cortez fired back.
Ocasio-Cortez was in for a rude awakening on multiple fronts.
First, a Twitter fact-check of Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet noted that Congress had not raised the $7.25 minimum wage since 2009.
“The minimum wage has not changed since 2009,” the fact-check read.
The fact-check also pointed out that a bipartisan majority in the U.S. Senate — including seven Democrats and one independent — voted to kill a minimum wage increase.
“In 2021, Congress voted on a bill to raise the minimum wage. [It] passed 231-199 in the House,” the fact-check added. “The bill was opposed by 192 Republicans, 8 Democrats and one Independent. Three Rs supported,” the fact-check continued.
“Blocked 58-42 in the Senate. 7 Ds and one [Independent] joined all Rs to block the bill,” the fact-check concluded.
Ocasio-Cortez’s push to increase the federal minimum wage also failed the fundamental laws of economics.
The law of supply and demand is unbreakable.
It’s also simple.
As price increases, demand decreases.
There is no known example where raising the cost of labor increases the demand for said labor.
But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a socialist.
That means Ocasio-Cortez does not believe in the law of supply and demand or all the literature on the study of economics which shows increasing the minimum wage kills jobs.
In reality, the true minimum wage is zero.
That’s because zero dollars per hour is what someone will earn if they can’t get a job.
And the government artificially increasing the cost of labor will lead to more unemployment.
Seven Democrats and one independent in the United States Senate understood these rules of economics and torpedoed Ocasio-Cortez’s minimum wage bill.
However, there are warning signs that Ocasio-Cortez may yet succeed thanks to the help of RINOs like Mitt Romney.
“Next year, the Senate will be narrowly divided with Democrats in charge, which may empower senators like Romney and Sinema to keep working together on issues like the minimum wage or immigration,” POLITICO reported.
The economy is reeling and many Americans already believe we are in a recession.
Raising the minimum wage and throwing mounting job losses onto the dumpster fire that is Joe Biden’s economy would only make the situation worse.
