Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took Washington by storm by forcing Democrats to adopt her radical socialist policy proposals.
But what happened next stunned millions of Americans.
That’s because Ocasio-Cortez admitted to this mistake that will make you question everything.
Ocasio-Cortez made major headlines during an interview with Yahoo News “Skullduggery” podcast.
“What is the biggest mistake you’ve made since you’ve been here and the biggest lesson you’ve learned?” Yahoo’s Michael Isikoff asked Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez stunned listeners when she stated that the rollout of her prized “Green New Deal” was her biggest mistake in Congress.
“Our GND rollout was really difficult,” Ocasio-Cortez responded. “It was done in a way that it was really easy to hijack the narrative around it. It was, like, too fast … I actually think the resolution itself is very solid, but, you know, between how it was rolled out and, there were like competing documents that were rolled out, some prematurely, that muddied the waters.”
But Ocasio-Cortez made the same mistake all bad marketers make.
She confused the wrapping that the package came in for the package itself.
A motion to advance the “Green New Deal” toward a vote in the Senate failed 57-0.
Not a single Democrat – including the six Senators running for President who had endorsed the socialist proposal – put their neck on the line by going on the record as voting “yes” because the proposal itself is politically toxic.
A bad marketing plan didn’t doom the “Green New Deal.”
Once the American people got a look at what Ocasio-Cortez was proposing – a Soviet-style takeover of the U.S. economy, banning airplane travel and fossil-fuel powered cars, and curtailing beef consumption because cow farts are supposedly warming the plant – the “Green New Deal” turned into a national punchline.
President Trump jokingly chided Senate Republicans for bringing it up for a vote because he wanted to make running against the laughable “Green New Deal” the centerpiece of his 2020 re-election campaign.
Ocasio-Cortez’s admission that the style – and not the substance – of the “Green New Deal” is what doomed it to political failure reminded many Americans of the old leftist saying that communism only failed because the right people weren’t in charge.
This is the second time Ocasio-Cortez admitted she needed to change her approach.
Ocasio-Cortez also admitted she was cutting back on her prolific social media use because it represented a “public health risk.”
Given that her political power comes by her ability to harness the Democrat base through viral social media posts and videos, this was a shocking admission.
Some Democrats would welcome Ocasio-Cortez stepping back from social media and the national political conversation.
But President Trump’s best chance to win re-election is to show the American people just how extreme the Democrat Party is.
And if the Democrat Presidential nominee is parroting the ideas of a loony 29-year-old socialist, the Democrats will have done President Trump’s job for him.
