Joe Biden can no longer count on the unconditional support of his fellow Democrats.
That became abundantly clear.
And that’s because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sent Joe Biden into panic mode with what she just did on TV.
Democrats and their partners in the corporate media are no longer even pretending that Joe Biden is running for president in 2024.
After a series of articles where top Democrats like former Barack Obama chief strategist David Axelrod went on the record and said Biden is too old and enfeebled to run for re-election, liberals are openly discussing what comes next.
Left-wing late-night host Stephen Colbert broached that topic with New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“You know, there’s some speculation as to whether President [Joe] Biden is going to run in 2024. There’s some reports that he’s a little frustrated that people keep asking because he keeps on saying yes and people go ‘Are you sure, are you sure,’” Colbert began in referencing a series of New York Times articles where Democrats fretted about Joe Biden seeking a second term at 82 years of age.
Colbert then noted that Ocasio-Cortez would turn 35 in 2024 – the minimum age required by the Constitution to run for president – and asked if Ocasio-Cortez had any interest in running for president.
“You know, I know somebody who’s going to turn 35 about a month before the election in 2024,” Colbert continued. “And they represent New York’s 14th [Congressional District]. Is that job appealing to you at all?”
Ocasio-Cortez notably did not deny running for president and refused to – once again – endorse Joe Biden for re-election.
“I think that we need to focus on keeping a democracy for anybody to be president in the next couple of years and that’s my central focus is helping the people of this country,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.
Colbert then pressed Ocasio-Cortez for a response and Ocasio-Cortez did not disavow interest in running for president.
“So it’s possible,” Colbert followed up. “So it’s possible.”
“I don’t know about all of that,” Ocasio-Cortez answered.
“I’m just here to get you in trouble,” Colbert shot back.
“You’re getting me in trouble,” Ocasio-Cortez responded. “I don’t know about all of that.”
In the past, Ocasio-Cortez made it clear she had higher aspirations than serving in the House of Representatives.
And the fervor with which Ocasio-Cortez jumped into the fight over abortion following the Supreme Court striking down Roe v. Wade suggested Ocasio-Cortez sought to carve out her space in a potential 2024 Democrat presidential primary field.
But the big story continues to be the lack of respect Democrats show Joe Biden, the sitting president from their own party.
Normally if an elected official even hinted about holding some White House ambitions and ducking questions about endorsing the incumbent the president’s team would chop them down to size.
Biden’s team – however – let Ocasio-Cortez openly float her own 2024 campaign.
That lack of a response suggests Biden’s team knows Biden isn’t running for re-election.
