Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the most liberal member of the Democratic Party today.
And even though she’s only been in office for a matter of months, she’s already pushing Democrats to move even further to the left.
But Ocasio-Cortez may be on the verge of tearing her party apart, and it’s all because of one reason.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t even been in office for more than half a year and she’s already done tremendous damage to the Democratic Party.
At a time when Democrats should be moving to the center to take back those voters who defected to Trump in 2016 and gave him the presidency, the Democrats are instead moving more and more to the left every day.
And people like Ocasio-Cortez are only accelerating that trend.
But while Ocasio-Cortez continues to push the envelope on how far leftist she can move the Democratic Party, she’s at risk of destroying it in a way she never thought was possible.
Breitbart reports, “Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) told former Rep. John Delaney (D-MD) Sunday to ‘sashay away’ over his opposition to Medicare for All, contending that the single-payer, government-run health care program is ‘sound policy.’”
While Ocasio-Cortez clashes with her own party members, some of whom are running for the presidency, she continues to risk tearing the party in two.
And that could spell disaster for Democrats in 2020 and beyond.
“Rep. Ocasio-Cortez slammed former Rep. Delaney for criticizing Medicare for All Sunday. The former Maryland lawmaker was booed for suggesting that Medicare for All does not serve as ‘good policy’ but serves as ‘good politics,’” adds Breitbart.
Delaney is one of the few Democrats running for the presidential nomination who has yet to endorse every aspect of the leftist platform liberals like Ocasio-Cortez is pushing for.
And he may ultimately pay the highest political price imaginable for it.
“We should have universal health care, but it shouldn’t be a kind of health care that kicks 150 million Americans off their health care,” Delaney said Saturday, sparking a chorus of boos. “That’s not smart policy.”
Even when Delaney endorses government-run healthcare, he’s still considered too moderate by some members of his own party.
That’s because the left wing of the Democratic Party doesn’t just want government-run healthcare, they want a full-blown government takeover of the entire healthcare industry.
“Ocasio-Cortez suggested Sunday that there remains too many Democrats running for president, and she said that Delaney should ‘sashay away,’ which means, according to Urban Dictionary, to leave a room like a drag queen,” adds Breitbart.
“Since there’s so many people running for President (& not enough for Senate), instead of obsessing over who‘s a ‘frontrunner,’ maybe we can start w some general eliminations,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “This awful, untrue line got boo’ed for a full minute. John Delaney, thank you but please sashay away.”
Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t realize that Americans aren’t calling out for the Democrats to be even more liberal on everything than they already are.
And the more the Democrats move to the left, the more President Trump will seem like the sound choice for re-election.
In her quest for ideological purity and the destruction of President Trump’s re-election bid in 2020, Ocasio-Cortez is pursuing two goals that are mutually exclusive.
And she’s picking the goal that will instead leave her party divided like never before.
