The state of play in the presidential race just received a giant shake-up.
No one saw this coming just two weeks ago.
And all hell broke loose when Trump got his hands on this brand-new swing state poll.
Back in July, polls showed Joe Biden holding a double digit lead both nationally and in the key swing states.
But as the Black Lives Matter riots raged and the Republican National Convention reframed the race as a choice as to which candidate can deliver law and order, the equation changed.
Evidence of the Trump campaign’s continued success came in the form of a poll of Pennsylvania from Monmouth University.
The Monmouth poll showed Joe Biden holding a narrow four point lead among registered voters 49-45, which was a sharp decline from Monmouth showing Biden up 13 over Trump in Pennsylvania back in July.
In Monmouth’s write-up of the polling data, they explained where Trump made his gains.
“This shift from Biden’s larger lead just over six weeks ago is due to declining support for the challenger among men, voters under age 50, and voters in key swing counties. The generic House ballot also remains close, while Democrats are in a generally better position in a trio of contests for statewide offices. The poll also finds that a small, but important, portion of the electorate agrees with the Republican message that the American suburbs are under threat,” Monmouth wrote.
This poll also found Joe Biden only carrying 72 percent of the minority vote in Pennsylvania, which was a decrease from 76 percent.
Monmouth Pollster Patrick Murray attributed this to the success of the Republican National Convention’s diverse lineup of speakers hammering Joe Biden for his history of racist gaffes and Donald Trump’s support for black Americans.
“The Republican convention attempted to sow some seeds of doubt among core Democratic blocs, especially young and urban voters. It looks like they may have had a small amount of success with that, at least for now,” Murray stated.
The poll also found that President Trump is now leading 46 to 44 in the ten swing counties which was a sharp reversal from the July poll which showed Biden leading by 19 points.
This was good news for Trump because in 2016, Hillary Clinton won these ten counties by one point and Donald Trump still won the state.
“Trump has increased his support in ten counties where the vote margins were closest in the 2016 presidential election. In these swing counties*, which are concentrated in a swath that runs from the Philadelphia suburbs into the northeast region of the commonwealth, the race stands at 46% for Trump and 44% for Biden. Just over six weeks ago, Biden had a sizable 54% to 35% lead among voters in this key county grouping,” Monmouth wrote of their poll.
Biden’s standing in Pennsylvania has eroded for multiple reasons.
Black Lives Matter riots showed Democrats have no ability to stand up to the violent mob.
On multiple occasions, Biden’s also said he would ban fracking which will kill the natural gas industry in Pennsylvania.
These declining poll numbers explain why Biden crept out of his basement to show up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to proclaim his opposition to riots and again falsely claim that he would not ban fracking.
