Barack Obama casts a long shadow over the Democrats’ 2020 Presidential nominating contest.
Democrat voters are waiting for Obama to make an announcement about the race that will change everything.
But Barack Obama had one private conversation that still haunts him to this day.
Former Vice President Joe Biden is the shaky frontrunner in the Democrat race.
Biden’s age and declining mental capabilities and physical stamina – he recently took an entire week off from campaigning because his staff feared his string of verbal gaffes exposed Biden as enfeebled and frail –threaten his chances at the nomination.
Fake news reporters sense a narrative about Biden gelling in the minds of voters and sense an opportunity to push a more ideologically committed leftist past Biden and to the nomination.
New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush tossed another log on that fire when Thrush divulged the details of how Barack Obama came to select Joe Biden as his running mate in 2008.
Thrush revealed that Obama wanted “somebody with gray in his hair” to offset his lack of experience in the minds of voters and to help him govern.
Biden also closed the deal by stating that he would always put Obama’s interests first because he was too old to ever run for President again.
The New York Times exclusively reported, “At some point, Mr. Biden also told Obama aides that ‘Barack would never have to worry’ about him positioning himself for another presidential run. He was too old, he told them, and he viewed his new job as a capstone, not a catapult.”
Thrush also poked at another sore spot for the Biden campaign – the fact that Obama did not endorse him despite Biden serving faithfully for eight years as Vice President.
In the story, Thrush detailed how Obama even tried to talk Biden out of running.
The Times also exclusively reported:
The two men spoke at least a half dozen times before Mr. Biden decided to run, and Mr. Obama took pains to cast his doubts about the campaign in personal terms.
“You don’t have to do this, Joe, you really don’t,” Mr. Obama told Mr. Biden earlier this year, according to a person familiar with the exchange.
Thrush even went on to say that Obama preferred then-Virginia Governor Tim Kaine as his running mate but chose Biden out of practical necessity.
“You are the pick of my heart, but Joe is the pick of my head,” Thrush reports Obama telling Kaine.
This news story landed like a dagger through the heart of Biden’s campaign.
The only reason Biden clings to his frontrunner status is due to his time as Obama’s Vice President.
But Obama chose him as Vice President specifically because he thought he would never run for President.
And Obama even tried to talk Biden out of running in 2020 after successfully pressuring Biden to stand down in 2016 because Obama figured Hillary Clinton was a better bet to win.
Thrush goes on to say that Obama became more involved in supporting Biden behind the scenes, but the fact of the matter is that at multiple different points Barack Obama did not want Joe Biden to ever run for President.
