Barack Obama spent years hiding a scandal that is political dynamite.
Now the bill has come due.
And Barack Obama realized he was ruined when he got hit with one nasty surprise.
The Senate is set to vote on reauthorizing the FISA law that allows the government to conduct surveillance of foreign targets as well as Americans suspected of acting as agents of a foreign government if a FISA judge grants approval.
This secret FISA court authorized four different 90 day warrants for the FBI to spy on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
The FBI used the fake news Christopher Steele dossier – in which the allegations of Russian collusion were later found to be disinformation likely planted by the Russian government – as the basis for winning approval to snoop through Page’s emails dating back to when Page served on the Trump campaign.
Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz found 17 significant errors and omissions in the applications for FISA wiretaps to spy on Page.
With the Senate set to vote on reauthorizing FISA, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul offered up an amendment to reform the FISA court to prevent the abuse of civil liberties the Obama administration and FBI carried out against Page and the Trump campaign.
Senator Paul proposed an amendment to the FISA reauthorization that would allow the government to obtain a FISA warrant to monitor Americans’ communications, but the government would have to obtain the warrant in a regular court.
“It flies in the face of our Constitution that a secret court can authorize invading an innocent American’s privacy,” Paul declared. “Recent months have once again made all too clear how such a system leads to abuse. It’s time for Congress to stop paying lip service to reform and pass real safeguards that respect Americans’ rights.”
“What happened to General Flynn and President Trump should never be allowed to happen again,” Paul added.
Paul’s amendment would also block the government from using evidence obtained from a warrantless wiretap against an American at trial and it would also allow that American to use said evidence in their defense.
When Edward Snowden revealed that the Obama administration spied on every Americans’ phone calls and emails with a warrantless wiretapping program, the defenders of the surveillance state claimed this authority would never be used against the American people.
That was a bald-faced lie.
During the 2016 election, the FBI used disinformation planted by Russian intelligence to mislead a FISA court to win authorization to spy on Carter Page.
Crooked FBI agents hoped to use this wiretap to catch the Trump campaign colluding with the Russians.
Critics contend the FBI even extended the warrant into the first year of Trump’s presidency in a Hail Mary hope of catching Page admitting Trump was in on the scheme to rig the election.
If you would like to support Senator Paul’s amendment to prevent Deep State spying on Donald Trump and the rest of the American public, you can call the Senate at 1-202-224-3121 and urge your senators to vote for Senator Paul’s reform.
