In his final years in office, Barack Obama tried to make fighting so-called “global warming” a top policy priority.
To that end, his administration entered into the Paris Climate Agreement – which would impose job-killing and economy-wrecking regulations on America’s economy – in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
However, President-elect Trump’s pick to head the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sends a strong signal his administration will move to quickly undo one of Obama’s most disastrous policies.
President-elect Trump has tapped Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to head the EPA.
As Oklahoma’s Attorney General, Pruitt was a fierce skeptic of the junk science being used to promote the controversial theory that human beings were causing global warming.
Politico reports on the selection:
“President-elect Donald Trump is planning to pick Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to run the EPA, putting one of the agency’s most hostile critics and a skeptic of climate change science at its helm, sources close to the transition said Wednesday.
As attorney general for a state that is one of the nation’s biggest oil, natural gas and grain producers, Pruitt has been at the forefront of lawsuits challenging EPA regulations on carbon emissions and water pollution, and he is expected to lead the effort to erase much of President Barack Obama’s environmental agenda. Pruitt has also faced accusations that he’s unusually close to energy producers, including a 2014 New York Times story reporting that he and other Republican attorneys general had formed an “unprecedented, secretive alliance” with the industry.
But his agenda would mesh well with Trump, who unloaded on Obama’s EPA during the campaign, calling it a “disgrace” that was strangling the economy. Trump promised to reduce the agency to “tidbits.”
“We’ll be fine with the environment,” Trump told Fox News last year. “We can leave a little bit, but you can’t destroy businesses.”
Conservatives cheered the selection as it meant Trump would stick to his guns on rolling back Obama’s “climate change” agenda.
Democrats were infuriated and reacted in their typical over-the-top fashion.
Former top Obama advisor Dan Pfeiffer summed up their hyperventilating with this Tweet.
At the risk of being dramatic. Scott Pruitt at EPA is an existential threat to the planet

But the science behind man-made global warming has always been dodgy.
Many conservatives believe that the media’s spreading of the notion that there is no debate about humans causing climate change may be the best example of Fake News.
In fact, leaked emails from scientists working at the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change revealed that they, themselves, believe the science behind these assertions – that humans are causing global warming – is a weak theory, but would conceal that data by deleting emails.
The emails also showed these scientists viewed their work as a “political cause” – and not scientific.
Many conservatives believe President-elect Trump is correct in rejecting the hysteria and junk science surrounding man-made global warming.
His selection of Scott Pruitt to head the EPA is a strong sign that President-elect Trump will live up to his campaign trail promises to rollback Obama’s job-killing, radical environmentalist agenda.
