Donald Trump and his campaign team could not believe it.
One of the most significant developments of the 2020 election cycle just took place.
And it happened when Bernie Sanders went on Fox News. This Sanders confession left jaws on the ground.
Bernie Sanders is now the unquestioned frontrunner in the Democrat Presidential primary.
The socialist Senator is raising the most money, tied for first in the Iowa Caucuses and overtook former Vice President Joe Biden for the lead in national polls.
Sanders achieved such heights in the nomination contest that Sean Hannity asked President Trump what he thought of Sanders’ candidacy during an interview that aired during the Super Bowl pregame show.
The President called Sanders a “communist” and pointed out that Sanders even honeymooned in the Soviet Union.
“I think he is a communist. I think of communism when I think of Bernie. You can say socialist. Didn’t he get married in Moscow?” the President responded.
Sanders appeared one week later on “Fox News Sunday” and host Chris Wallace asked Sanders to respond.
The Vermont Senator tried to brush off the President’s remarks by claiming Trump was a liar and that Sanders did not get married in Moscow – which he didn’t.
But Sanders did spend his honeymoon in Moscow.
“It gives me no pleasure to say this, we have a president who is a pathological liar. He lies. No, I did not get married in Moscow. I participated in creating a sister city program,” Sanders ranted.
“Obviously, I am not a communist. I presume the president knows the difference. Maybe he doesn’t,” Sanders added.
But in his next set of comments, Sanders essentially confessed to Trump’s accusation that he was a communist.
Sanders went on to falsely claim that America is already a socialist nation so his brand of socialism is already a part of the American experience.
“In many respects, we are a socialist society today. We have a huge budget. It puts money into all areas. Donald Trump, before he was president, as a private business person, he received $800 million in tax breaks and subsidies to build luxury housing in New York. Now, what does that mean when the government gives you $800 million in tax breaks and subsidies? The fossil fuel industry whose product happens to be destroying our planet right now receives tens and tens of billions of dollars in tax breaks and subsidies so does the pharmaceutical industry. The difference between my socialism and Trump’s socialism is I believe the government should help working families, not billionaires.”
Sanders supports two key policy proposals that many critics deride as communism.
The centerpiece of Sanders’ campaign is a $30 trillion dollar scheme to ban private healthcare and herd all Americans into a government-run healthcare program.
Sanders also endorsed the $93 trillion dollar “Green New Deal” which would place the American economy under the thumb of government bureaucrats, and unelected officials in Washington centrally plan the United States economy.
Sanders’ “Green New Deal” would ban jet plane travel, hamburgers and fossil fuel-powered cars.
An early draft of the “Green New Deal” also called for a universal basic income even for Americans that did not want to work.
As Sanders gains in the polls, his record will come under more scrutiny.
And Sanders essentially admitting to the charge of being a Soviet-sympathizing socialist will not endear him to the suburban voters that swung the Democrats’ way in 2018.
