Beto O’Rourke’s presidential campaign is a flaming train wreck.
And Beto just made things ten times worse.
That’s because O’Rourke was blindsided by some awful news that just ruined his challenge to Trump.
Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke’s presidential campaign is a complete disaster.
The man best known for being a political loser in his race against Ted Cruz in 2018, somehow thought it was a bright idea to run for president in 2020.
And that decision is now coming back to haunt him in a huge way.
After kicking off his campaign at his home town of El Paso, Beto decided to cite his city, which he represented for many years in the House of Representatives, as an example for the rest of the country.
“With Ciudad Juarez we form the largest binational community in this hemisphere. And for 20 years running, we’ve been one of the safest cities in the United States of America,” the El Paso native declared. “We are safe not despite the fact that we are a city of immigrants and asylum seekers. We are safe because we are a city of immigrants and asylum seekers,” Beto said.
And in just a few sentences, he sank his presidential ambitions.
El Paso may be a relatively safe city, but for Beto to suggest that the Mexican city of Ciudad Juárez is anything remotely related to “safe” is laughable.
Juárez is one of the murder capitals of the world.
“Violence in the border city of Ciudad Juárez continues at an alarming rate this year with a 74.6 percent increase in homicides during the first three months of this year over last,” states Breitbart.
And the violence is staggering.
“During the first three months of this year, officials reported a 74.6 percent increase in homicides compared to the same three-month period of 2018. January of 2019 saw an increase of 33 percent, February — 118.6 percent, and March — 58.1 percent more homicides than the previous year, according to local media reports,” adds Breitbart.
Swamped with some of the worst crimes of the Mexican drug war, Juárez is notorious for the number of murders and disappearances that occur in the city and the surrounding area.
Juárez was ranked the #1 city in the world for murders back in 2008.
While crime has since gradually fallen, placing Juárez at the 37th spot in terms of murder capitals of the world, it almost certainly hasn’t been because of immigrants and asylum-seekers as Beto is suggesting.
The drop in violent crime in Juárez is because of a growing effort by Mexican police and government forces to combat the drug trade and root out local corruption.
But things have only gotten worse in recent years, around the same time the immigrant crisis on the southern border of the US began to spiral out of control.
And now Beto is trying to paint his home region as a safe model for the rest of the country when nothing could be further from the truth.
