Bill Clinton just walked into an ambush.
The former President sat for what he thought was going to be a friendly interview.
But Clinton was asked the one question about Monica Lewinsky that made him fly off the handle.
Clinton appeared on NBC’s Today Show with his co-author James Patterson to promote their book, “The President is Missing.”
Appearing on the left-wing NBC should have been a safe space for a former Democratic President.
But correspondent Craig Melvin had other ideas.
Melvin stunned Clinton when he questioned him about an op-ed Monica Lewinsky wrote in Vanity Fair: “This March, Monica Lewinsky penned an op-ed in “Vanity fair, taking responsibility for her part in the scandal but also admitting that years later she was diagnosed with PTSD from the unrelenting public scrutiny. Looking back, through the lens of #MeToo now, do you think differently or feel more responsibility?”
Clinton exploded in rage.
The former President responded to this legitimate question by ranting,
“You typically have ignored gaping facts in describing this, and I bet you don’t even know them. This was litigated 20 years ago. Two-thirds of the American people sided with me. “They were not insensitive that I had a sexual harassment policy when I was governor in the ’80s. I had two women chiefs of staff when I was governor. Women were over-represented in the attorney general’s office in the ’70s for their percentage of the bar. I’ve had nothing but women leaders in my office since I left. You are giving one side and omitting facts.”
Clinton also revealed that he has never personally apologized to Lewinsky for turning her life upside down.
Lewinsky was just a 24-year-old White House intern when Clinton used his position as President to prey on her and engage in an affair.
Clinton ended up lying about the affair under oath and perjury was one of the articles of impeachment brought against him.
After Clinton beat impeachment, he figured the scandal was behind him.
But since the media and the Democrats want to manipulate the #MeToo movement to take down President Trump based on unsubstantiated gossip, the left knows they have to toss Clinton under the bus in the process.
Clinton sensed this and wondered why Melvin was asking these questions:
“Someone should ask you these questions because of the way you formulate the questions. I dealt with it 20 years ago, plus, and the American people, two-thirds of them, sided with me, and I’ve tried to do a good job since then with my life and with my work. That’s all I have to say.”
Trump supporters point out that the media gave Clinton a pass when it counted 20 years ago.
Two-thirds of the American people sided with Clinton because the press bombarded them with daily stories about how Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr was out of control and that Clinton’s personal conduct did not affect his job performance.
Conservatives also note that Melvin and other liberals never asked these tough questions during Hillary’s two campaigns for President.
Clinton is being forced to reckon with past allegations of sexual assault, harassment, and rape because the left has no more political use for the family.
The media needs to fake objectivity because it will be easier to go after Trump if they can show they also grilled Clinton.
