Bill Clinton is never more than one step ahead of his shady past.
He has found himself at the center of one scandal after another.
But Clinton has nowhere to run now that he confessed his guilt in rigging one election.
The establishment has been laser focused on Russia’s election “meddling” ever since Donald Trump won.
But there is no evidence that the Russians actually had any impact in the 2016 election – and every political insider who knows what they are talking about will say the Russians had zero effect on the outcome.
There was – however – one central player in the 2016 election who has meddled in elections.
Bill Clinton copped to meddling in the 1996 Israeli election to help Shimon Peres in his campaign against the conservative Bibi Netanyahu.
Breitbart reports:
“Former president Bill Clinton confessed to Israeli television that he tried to help Shimon Peres defeat Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel’s 1996 general elections.
In an interview on Channel 10 news that aired Tuesday, Clinton admitted that he tried to help Peres win the election in a way that didn’t “overtly” implicate him, and that he did so because Peres was more committed than Netanyahu to the so-called peace process, which had suffered a huge blow with the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin six months earlier.
“I tried to do it in a way that didn’t overtly involve me,” he said, without expanding on exactly how he intervened.
“I did try to be helpful to him [Peres] because I thought he was more supportive of the peace process. And I tried to do it in a way that was consistent with what I believed to be in Israel’s interest, without saying anything about the difference in domestic polices, without anything else.”
Netanyahu won, but Clinton said the Israeli leader forgave him.
Breitbart also reports:
“In Tuesday’s interview, Clinton recalled a visit by the newly appointed Israeli prime minister to the White House, during which Netanyahu “wanted me to know that he knew I wasn’t for him and he beat us anyway.”
Clinton laughed, then added: “And he was being very ‘Bibi,’” using Netanyahu’s nickname. Clinton has never tried to hide his dislike of Netanyahu.
“But, you know,” continued Clinton, “I realized that he was now the leader of the country and if I wanted to support the peace I had to find a way to work with him. I wasn’t so much angry as just bemused by the brashness with which he played his hand. But that’s who he is. He did a very good job of it.”
Clinton was not the only Democrat President to undermine Israeli democracy though election meddling.
Barack Obama funneled $250,000 to the opposition party in 2015 in a failed effort to defeat Netanyahu.
When the media accused the Russians of “meddling” in the 2016 election, they described it as an attack on democracy itself.
If that is the case, then Clinton and Obama are guilty of subverting democratic elections and pushing the world closer to authoritarianism.
