Since the election of President Donald Trump, Bill Clinton’s life has been turned upside down.
His entire presidential legacy is destroyed as Trump is proving just how much of a failure he is.
And now Bill Clinton will cry himself to sleep after Trump made a huge announcement.
While Trump’s biggest issue on the campaign trail may have been his opposition to illegal immigration, it was almost certainly his positions on trade that brought him across the finish line in the 2016 election.
In rust belt states that have been obliterated by one-sided trade deals, Trump spoke directly to those voters.
He was particularly harsh in his attacks on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which was signed by Bill Clinton in 1993.
Trump called it the “worst trade deal maybe ever signed anywhere, but certainly ever signed in this country” during a debate with Hillary Clinton in 2016.
And he wasn’t alone in his opposition.
Bernie Sanders, who nearly defeated Hillary Clinton, opposed the deal.
But Trump was able to prove that he has a better alternative, when Sanders’ alternative would have been much worse for the country.
Trump’s USMCA, which is meant to replace NAFTA, would lower the trade deficit with countries like Mexico, which would benefit Americans.
And Trump reassured Americans that he will continue to push for this trade deal during his recent rally in Florida.
He began by blasting former President Obama, who doubted Trump’s pledge to bring back American jobs, mockingly questioning whether he has a “magic wand.”
“Remember, you need a magic wand,” Trump said. “You’re never going to bring it back. That was President Obama, you need a magic wand after the twin disasters of NAFTA… horrible.”
Trump was cut off by a supporter in the crowd who needed medical attention, before adding, “We’re replacing the NAFTA catastrophe. If Nancy Pelosi will ever sign it and send it, we’re waiting for months.”
He then went on to call his new deal “incredible,” but doubted that Pelosi would allow it to be passed because “she doesn’t want to give the people of our country a victory.”
Trump has been working to negotiate with Democrats for months to pass his new deal.
While he has some support with Democrats, and could potentially pass it through her House, Pelosi has refused to allow it to go for a vote.
If NAFTA is completely repealed, it will be the biggest blow to the Clinton legacy since the day Trump took office.
NAFTA was the most significant thing Clinton was able to achieve during his scandal-ridden presidency.
Its legacy has been long-lasting, with the trade deal being highly beneficial to Mexico and Canada, but extremely damaging to middle-class Americans.
If Democrats don’t allow Trump’s deal to go through, it will become one of Trump’s biggest selling points during the 2020 election.
