Chuck Schumer and the Democrats badly miscalculated on their second attempt to impeach Donald Trump.
The maneuver is about to blow up in their faces.
And now Chuck Schumer is facing impeachment for these five words.
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is the leading Senate Republican attacking the substance of the House of Representatives’ article of impeachment against Donald Trump.
Senator Paul argued that Donald Trump delivered standard, boiler plate political rhetoric in his January 6 speech at a “March to Save America” rally.
The Kentucky Republican argued Democrats are charting a dangerous course and that their leaders could easily face impeachment for similar language.
Paul cited a speech Chuck Schumer gave at the Supreme Court where Schumer ranted that“you have released the whirlwind” at conservative justices if they dared to rule against the left in an abortion case.
“I opposed the notion of — which I think was a misguided notion, a voting to overturn the election either with Congress or with the vice president,” Paul said. “But I think if we are going to criminalize speech and somehow impeach everybody who says, oh, go fight to hear your voices heard, really we ought to impeach Chuck Schumer then. He went to the Supreme Court, stood in front of the Supreme Court, and said specifically, hey Gorsuch, hey Kavanaugh, you’ve unleashed a whirlwind, and you’re going to pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you continue with these awful decisions,” Paul began.
Paul noted that Chief Justice Roberts—who is no one’s idea of a conservative stalwart—rebuked Schumer for nearly inciting a riotous mob to storm the Supreme Court.
“This inflammatory wording, this violent rhetoric of Chuck Schumer was so bad that the chief justice, who rarely says anything publicly, immediately said this kind of language is dangerous as a mob tried to invade the Supreme Court,” Paul added. “So if people want to hold President Trump accountable for language, there has to be a consistent standard, and to my mind, it’s a partisan farce because they’re not doing anything to Chuck Schumer, not doing anything to Representative Omar, not doing anything to Maxine Waters. It’s just not fair. It’s just partisan politics under a different name.”
The history of American politics is that when one side breaks a rule or norm, the other party seeks payback.
If Democrats are going to try and impeach and convict Donald Trump for constitutionally protected speech, then the Republican Party is going to say turnabout is fair play when they inevitably win back the majority in both houses of Congress, and that could come as soon as next November.
That could lead to Republicans holding snap impeachment hearings for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Chuck Schumer.
