Chuck Schumer just stepped in it.
He tried to play to the Democrats identity politics obsessed base.
But he ended up insulting millions of Americans in a racist speech.
It’s expected for Schumer and the Democrats to mindlessly oppose everything Donald Trump does.
And they are fighting tooth-and-nail against Trump’s appointment of conservative judges.
Trump reshaping the federal courts with young conservatives who will adhere to the Constitution is one of the great successes of his Presidency.
So Schumer tried to throw cold water on it.
He rose to speak in opposition to the nomination of Marvin Quattlebaum – who was nominated to fill a vacancy on the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the District of South Carolina.
Schumer declared that he opposed Quattlebaum because he was white.
The Democrat Minority Leader was outraged that Quattlebaum was nominated to fill a spot that Obama had twice nominated black nominees for.
The Daily Caller reports:
“Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer attacked one of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees on Wednesday because the nominee is not a racial minority.
The Democrat from New York said on the Senate floor that he could not vote to approve Marvin Quattlebaum for a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina because he is a white man replacing two black Obama nominees.
“The nomination of Marvin Quattlebaum speaks to the overall lack of diversity in President Trump’s selections for the federal judiciary,” Schumer complained. “Quattlebaum replaces not one, but two scuttled Obama nominees who were African American.”
“As of February 14th, 83 percent of the President Trump’s confirmed nominees were male, 92 percent were white. That represents the lowest share of non-white candidates in three decades,” he continued. “It’s long past time that the judiciary starts looking a lot more like the America it represents. Having a diversity of views and experiences on the federal bench is necessary for the equal administration of justice.”
“I’ll be voting no on the Quattlebaum nomination,” Schumer concluded.”
Democrats did not object to Quattlebaum’s qualifications.
Schumer only objected to the color of his skin.
It was a horrifying statement.
In America, merit and talent are supposed to rule the day.
But according to Schumer and the Democrats, racial quotas and identity politics are to be the guiding light in American life.
